Thanks for your thoughtful reply Richard. The reason I am using a nested sequence is that it is Adobe’s recommended approach to multi-camera editing. Indeed it has shown a few advantages over other approaches, but the lack of control over audio tracks is a bonkers oversight that draws me to the conclusion that Friday is cocktail day at Adobe and that nesting was developed on a Friday.

On a brighter note, Friday is also cocktail day at my office, and guess what day it is tomorrow…..

Thanks guys. Repairing permissions yielded no joy, however the problem was solved when I selected all clips on my timeline, hit ctrl+c, created a new timeline, hit ctrl+v and deleted the original timeline. Obviously something wasn’t right with the sequence itself.

A few moments after making the above post, audio spontaneously returned. I edited an audio clip into my timeline and everything returned to normal.

However, a few edits later and it’s done it again – no audio in the viewer and no audio when I edit a new clip into the timeline. Strikes me it must be a bug. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks Dave, only thing is it’s quite a copmlex comp in 3d space, so a camera is a necessity.

As a workaround, I’ve exported the offending layer separately and the composited it back with the rest of the .ai file in AE. Seems to have solved the issue, however it would be interesting if someone has some suggestions why the problem occurs in the first place.

I’ve been scratching my head all night trying to work out the best settings to export HDV footage.

I have a timeline that’s over an hour long, mixed format (HDV/DVCProHD) and I need to export approval copies onto DV tape and DVD. Obviously I can’t export as a QTR, so I’ve tried every possible variation of MOV and I can’t reach a balance between massive file sizes (2GB for 1 minute) and horrible video noise, indeed often I achieve both.

I’m running Avid Xpress Pro v5.5.3 on a Dell Precision M90.

Any help much appreciated as I’m out of ideas and time….!

It turns out it was something even simpler…..

I had selected all layers and, with reckless clubbed fingers I’d somehow turned all layers into adjustment layers. What an idiot.

Many thanks to you all for wasting your fine expertise on my ignorant cack-handedness. I am as appreciative as I am undeserving.
