Installing the software provided with camera fixed the problem! I basically had to hunt for the box, I’m glad I kept it =) Thank you for your very helpful tip!

The Quicktime did provide playback (very slow), but I wanted conversion capabilities, which the ‘Pro’ provides. Having Quicktime does not make the videos any more usable on Sony Vegas or Windows Maker than before.

But Good point…. my camera: https://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/sony-cyber-shot-dsc/4505-6501_7-33521241.html

My computer (this is a temporary, probably will be stuck with it for months though, my old one crashed)

Thank you SO much for putting up with my questions =)

Thank you for the suggestion about the CD software. Im trying that now.

I did not have Quicktime on my old PC, is it possible that somehow I accidently changed my camera settings to shoot in MP4 if so, any idea as how to change it back?

I have the Quicktime software (no help), I’m assuming you mean Quicktime Pro which is something that I have to purchase, which I want to avoid because Im strongly under the belief that this can be fixed if I just change the settings, how could it work before and not now?!

Thank you again for your advice!

The files came from my camera. I never had a problem with viewing the files before, I can only assume that because I downgraded to an XP the windows movie maker does not work with MP4, like the vista version did.
So basically I was informed that I should get a more ‘professional’ software for a more professional setting.
I simply put in the search engine what I was looking for and Vegas came up.

They are video files, but only sound plays.

So its safe to say that the Vegas doesn’t work with MP4?
