I would think your insurance company would cover the loss. Because you were using your gear. It’s not like you rented it out to a third party without you being on the shoot. Just my take. And I 2nd the, ask them to pay your deductable. That’s what a ‘stand-up’ company would do. Sorry for you loss thought!

You need more than just a Beta deck, you need an analog I/O. Something like the AJA IoLA that has component in’s and out’s. I have the IoLA and it works great for my analog Beta deck. You would need it for both the input and output. I also use a Kona3 for digital but you don’t need that.
Question, how are you monitoring your FCP video? You have to have some sort of I/O to feed an NTSC Monitor?

If your first bid was approved for daily rate. I would stick firm to that and say I don’t have a weekly rate and I just go by daily rates.
But, for reference, Rental houses usually charge 4 day/weeks for video gear. Film gear use to rent for 3 day/weeks. I personally don’t offer weekly rates on my services. And travel time is 1/2 my daily shoot rate.
But, with the economy going into a depression (yeah, I think so) who knows if I will have any clients after this week.

My clients all think their Editors and Directors. They listen to the playback and approve it. As Tony Soprano says… “Whadda gonna’ do!” Not in this economy. The market tanked another 450 today. I’m lucky to still have clients.

The people you are referring to are… CLIENTS. Some of my clients demand that the levels are cranked so that their spots stand out. It always puts me in a bad position. I tell them they may get rejected the stations QC dept, but, you know what, they never do.

This drives my wife crazy at home too. And what makes me mad is the difference in levels between HD network programming in Dolby Digital vs. when they go breaks and the commerical spots are in analog. The audio levels are so much louder, even I have to scramble to grab the remote.
Unfortunately, this will go on for quite a while… Arrgh!

I leave the iris set, otherwise you will get weird changes that look jerky. It looks more natural to let the scene just transpire. You can always do some exposure/color correction later. As far as shutter, I usually leave it off, as I think the slight blur helps the motion look smoother.

You can’t set the HDX900 to SD. It only records HD.

No, The HDX900 only records in HD, the SDX is SD. They will never match 100%. As there will have to be a conversion involved. You will have to down-convert the HDX900’s footage to SD and that will effect the process.
