Check that “use high-quality video setting when available” is checked in your Quicktime preferences.

September 27, 2009 at 4:17 pm in reply to: after effects 3d camera lining up layers and camera tracking of moving objects“when I rotate the map my object and line drawn as it moves stay in the same plane and get hidden under the map. Does nayone know if and how I can fix the line and path for the object/model to the surface of the map? ”
You can create a null object, make it 3D, and parent everything to the null. Then use the null to control the rotation, position, etc of everything together.
OR
Parent everything to the map layer.
Also, if you have several 3D layers that are stacked together you should separate them by at least a few pixels in the Z position or they can have problems like intersecting each other or flickering from one image to another during the render. So if the farthest layer from the camera, which I’ll assume is the map, is at Z position “0”, then set the next closest layer’s (your stroke line) Z position to something like “-5” so that there is some Z space between them. The next closest layer would then be set to “-10”, and so on.
There are quite a few threads and tutorials in the Cow, Video Copilot, etc. about controlling a camera. One of the easiest and most versatile ways is to parent the camera to a 3D null and use the null to control the camera. You can then have the camera follow an object easily by parenting its control null to the object you want to follow, or by connecting their position values through an expression. This way the camera will follow the object automatically and you can then animate the camera’s position and/or point of interest relative to the null very easily.
Hope that helps.

You should be able to download it with RealPlayer. It can download and play back most flash movies from the web, as long as they are not copy-protected.

Here’s a great tutorial on this subject by Jayse Hansen…

Search “Text on path” in the After Effects tutorials section and you’ll find several tutorials on this subject.

Click on the Advanced tab.
The Shutter Angle controls the amount of motion blur. Set it to 300 to start.
Turn on motion blur for all moving layers and for the comp itself.
RAM preview and see how it looks, then adjust the Shutter Angle as needed to get the look you want.
Search “Motion Blur” in AE help for more details about how it works.
Hope that helps.

I may be misunderstanding your question but if you’re asking how to feather a layer mask then just select the layer and hit “F” to bring up the mask feather property.
“MM” brings up all mask properties including expansion, which may also be useful.

September 7, 2009 at 3:23 pm in reply to: why is AE on a PC so much faster then a Mac ?I can’t explain it but I can confirm it. I have a Mac Pro at work and a PC at home and the PC consistently renders about 30% faster. The Mac has a quad-core 2.66 Intel Xeon processor and the PC has a 2.66 Intel Core2 duo (not a quad). I don’t know why the PC is faster, but it is.
Also, if you have to reboot your PC between renders then something is wrong. Have somebody check it out because it should be rendering just fine – mine does.

Just pre-compose the two layers you are cross-fading and set the blending mode on the top layer to “Alpha Add”. In the pre-comp you will still see the dip, but in the main comp where this cross-fading comp is nested the cross-fade will appear correctly with no dip.
