Sequence is Prores 422 720p 29.97, first clip is 18:29, second clip is 38:29.

  • Hardware Overview:

    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,3
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 8 MB
    Memory: 16 GB
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M

Using MTS footage from Sony NEX7. Shot on green screen. The results with Open CL are for less than optimal, I should have upgraded my PC Master Collection instead of my Mac Production Premium. The system runs fine(except for the crashing and freezing), just no speed improvements on MacBook Pro.

  • Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it but neither of them give me the performance that Adobe Premier gives me. Neither of those two you want me to use gives me the real-time playback for native formats that Premiere has. i think it would be a step backwards. Have you done any testing with your Boris Red Key compared to CS6 Ultra Key?

  • Nothing to see here either.

So far CS6 on Macbook Pro = FAIL

So much hoopla for a nothing release. Even Speedgrade is a one-way harddrive bloating experience. UltraKey render errors, crashing etc…

If you watch Activity Monitor you will definitely see Open CL slowdown. With Open CL the CPU is between 200-480% usage. MPE only is 500-600+% and renders mucho faster for me. Let’s hope there is an update within a few hours that explains everything.

  • Worse than I initially thought. This software should be pulled and finished before it is released into the wild.

I tried some longer clips. Crop, Ultra Key, 3-way cc.

    MPE only, 2:20
    Open CL, 4:29

Definitely not ready. Open CL gives choppy playback at Full res and Half Res WITH rendered effects.

MPE plays back much more smoothly with the same footage and rendered or not, MPE plays back better.

Is that in Full or 1/2 res? Any CC or effects? Scaling? Crop, Ultra Key?

Walter, you are on a PC, enough said.

I already own and have been trying to sell my Boris Red. It is not a solution and is very cumbersome to implement into a workflow. I also own Continuum and find it much better, it allows you to stay inside the editing program. Continuum is not improving much either though. Transitions are not handled in Premiere effectively, must be the API, or so say developers.

Why I wouldn’t want to upgrade? I do that’s why I have downloaded the trial. I am finding it very clunky on the MacBook Pro. We can’t even get a Quadro 6000 even if we wanted to.

I would rather have reviews that tell exactly what is better and what is working. Most everyone’s response is “it works great”, “unbelievable performance upgrade”. I personally do not see any of these claims on my MacBook Pro…with a riad…on a single stream of MTS footage.

  • Tom, I’ll send you the footage…where?
