I tried to turn off the extra audio channels in the Log & Capture Window but the pop-up menu for number of audio tracks is greyed out and set to 12 channels. the mystery is that when capturing we only get the amount of tracks that contain sound, but I guess it’s written into the file’s meta data that it should have 12 channels. So when relinking files when they move around between different editing machines those 8 extra empty tracks re-appear and slows the editing down.

I also looked in the Capture Preset section of the Audio/Video Settings and there’s only one option in the audio section and it’s 48k 24bit 12 channels.

If there’s a way to change that somewhere else I’d very happy to learn something new.

Hi Luke,
I hooked up the DAT deck and connected the SPDIFs directly and there’s no bad audio anymore. So logic tells me that the HD Link Box is bad somehow.

What’s troubling beyond this particular instance is that this is the 3rd HD link box we had to replace. The other two had picture issues. Must be a bad batch due to glitchy components.
This is just information. Pass it on to who can make a difference.

I tried monitoring via the built in audio ports of the Mac and it’s fine. Tomorrow morning (LA time) I will bring in my DAT deck and monitor via the SPDIF to see if it’s the card or the HD link box that twists the audio.
I’ll keep you posted and let you know tomorrow.

Yeah, dito here. Did you find a fix yet?
It worked before updating the OS to 10.3.9 and QT to 7. The OS was needed for a new large X-raid, but the QT just came in under the radar. Usually with QT updates that require a new key you still get the features from the old version from within another app.

But now we can’t capture anything over 10 seconds with the same setup you have. Very strange, I just did a feature in DVCPRO HD this winter without any capture problems.
