To remedy the lack of a proper post-workflow Adobe could go with sheer video.

It’s a solution I was hoping Apple would adopt but instead came ProRes (not bad but Sheer Video is lossless).
The notion “mostly working native is best” is I think the opposite of higher end post workflows. On the editing side maybe native is good at times but as soon as you enter grading and finnishing you need a DI format. Working in H264, AVC-I or any other super destructive codec opens up a world of issues. Adobe needs something similar to ProRes and / or better.
Further more Adobe touts its Mercury Engine and it probably is awesome with the correct hardware. It’s a bit sad to use PrPro however with a non-nvidia machine running ProRes footage. Even FCPX looks like a solid alternative here.

I’d be happy to just being able to use the iPad as a monitor for scopes. Brilliant resolution, price and form-factor.

I think a feature of OpenCL is to use all available processors in the system – CPU, GPU or custom DSP – as best se fit for maximum performance. If this actually works in reality is a different story. I’ve seen tech-demos showing the above.

Most if not all apps (except DaVinci) use the GUI-card for acceleration I think.

We’ve had huge issues getting workable QT’s from Smoke to our FCP / After Effect station and the post-house we often get files from state the same. Gamma issues primarily (and of course this very odd codec).
Their solution is routing video out from the Smoke and do a capture to a separate station or tape-deck. Sometimes a very cumbersome solution but it give perfect results when comparing to their native dpx-files.

That’s probably true. I just hope Apple sees the value of OSX in the creative professional community.

It scary but I think if Apple put 100% effort on iOS-devices today they get X million back from that. If they put 100% effort on MacPro’s they’d get perhaps 1/10th of that back.
Follow the money a lot of people say.
That said, I still think even if the MacPro isn’t a money-cow they are needed for a lot of people – including Apple them selves – for a lot of tasks.

Earlier i-devices have had quite flexible use of resolutions – it’s not fixed to a set res but amount of pixles.
– 1920×1080 = 2,07 Mpix / frame and 62,2 Mpix / sec at 30 fps
– 2048×1024 = 2,09 Mpix / frame and 52,4 Mpix / sec at 25 fps.I can’t guarantee it’d work but I think it should.

Well iPad 3 supports High Profile 4.1 which is quite good. In theory you could run 2048×1024 at 24/25 fps at high bitrates (50Mbit/s) as well as 1920×1080 at 24, 25 and 30 p.

According to Sony the OLED’s old deeper blacks than CRT’s so what can one say… Yum Yum? 🙂
