For a few years now I’ve pretty much kept everything ‘live’ on external HDs as the cost now makes this feasible (even with backups) and it’s much quicker to access archive material when a client comes along several years later and whats to make an edit change!
Sorry for your files 🙂
Talking about hard drives for backup, just want to share this with you :
turns out that some (hard) drives stop working after a number of years if you don’t use them.
Happened to a lot of my clients wanting to retreive material and the drive just didn’t boot- power up and it does not start spinning, aven the fan…. and when comes the time to change powersupply for these years old drives.. good luckI tend to recommend more an more the use of DLT or some kind digital tapes.

Media 100 files which were burn to DVD in 2003
I might be totally out, but if they were M100 8.x.x quicktime, maybe you need older media 100 extensions/codecs to read them, codecs related to the Vincent 601 or p6000 cards. I remember having problems with older codecs on my mac pro back then… but can’t remember how I fixed it…maybe they’re just corrupted?!?!

I really do not want to have to use a 3rd party software…Though, I really recommend you do!
Like you, I often have to deliver both file formats/dimensions.
Using most of the time the Pro Res Codec, I export as a Quicktime movie a Pro Res or Uncompressed file in the original native dimensions (or in the DVCPRO Codec with its native size of 1280×1080). Then using MPEG Streamclip, I export downconverting to any other Qt codec. Sometimes very usefull for client approvals via email or FTP of your work-in-progress or simply to encode a delivery format. Latest version also has a very good deinterlacer module which is ideal to export progressive files. Here’s the link if you wanna give it a try

For me,
Plugin 1.1.2 will work for AE CS4.
Plugin 1.6.0 (installed with M100 1.6.2) will also work for CS4.Plugin 1.1.2 is not seen/read by AE CS5 (doesn’t work).
And (surprisingly?), plugin 1.6.0 gives this error message when launching AE CS5 :After Effects error: Couldn’t find main
entry point for Boris XML Transfer for
Media 100.bundle
( 48 :: 72 )OS X 10.5.8

Hey, thanks
good ideas
It’s probably a good time to upgrade anyway… -
I hope that a new AE plugin will be posted on the website not soo far in the future.
Strange enough… after all these years…
I’m using Suite 1.1.3 and AE CS4 9.0.2 on 10.5.8 and it will crash all the way on XML Import – except your Vb/V1 and up trick works for me.Crash error says:
After Effects error : crash occured while invoking
plug-in “Media 100 program Importer”.then it quits and a message says a copy of your project was saved (…)
Does it mean the importer plug-in has not evolved through all these years?

Audio input is set to AES/EBU (XLR)
I would assume you should set the audio input to Analog.
AES/EBU is digital XLR.
If you are using an analog Beta VTR, like a UVW-1800, PVW2800 or BVW-75, then you should be set to analog audio in, using XLR cable. -

wow, thanks
this confirms it’s behaving as expected. And we can easily work it out as QuickTime from there anyway.Just one thing that comes to my mind though. I don’t think this is likely to happen, but let’s say I want to trash these media files for drive space matters and one day I want to re-acquire/batch re-acquire these files from the existing timeline, how do I proceed. Is there simply a way to do so, since this media have been imported?
Pretty scary!
