That copy protection button only sets flags to the final output image and used by a licensed replicator when applying CSS encryption. DVD-r/+r does not allow CSS to be applied.
Look on the bright side – if your film is so good (which im sure it is or hope it is) that everyone at the festival is making copies, then you’ll have a multi-million $ distribution deal in no time 🙂

Why are you outputting an MPEG 2 I Frame @25mb/s? Your timeline is 10 bit uncompressed. Your actually compressing twice here. Once as you export your MPEG2 I frame sequence then a second time as you let Encore do the transcoding.
You should just output a 10bit uncompressed AVI and bring that into Encore. Also built in MPEG 2 encoders are not good. Possibly try some dedicated MPEG2 encoders while reading up on Encoding good practices.
playing correctly sometimes and not others is very strange indeed…I wish I could give you a more direct answer.

If 6.4 was only made available a couple weeks ago, I’d really like to know the Where, Whos and Hows of verification and replication from DVDit Pro?

Jeez…I hate it when this info changes so quickly. 🙂 Your correct, it does now. I find it odd though why Sonic would be selling a $30K plus authoring tool and ,at the same time, offer a $400 tool that outputs an image for replication? Seem like a shot in the foot to me. Regardless, I would never trust a BD image out of DVDit Pro unless its gone through an entire verification stage. I’d be surprised if it passes spec verification. Delighted but surprised 🙂

Currently DVDit Pro will not output the correct image for replication. It claims it can but it does not. Those images will flat out be rejected by a replicator. Encore never has. I understand from Sonic this will change soon. But “soon” for Sonic can be a year or two.

Use Compressor. It’s designed for encoding MPEG2 for DVD. You can have DVDSP do the encoding for you but it uses QTs encoding engine which isn’t great. The bitrate depends on the LENGTH of your material, not the size of the source file.

I’m confused…you have DVDSP and Compressor and you plan to send it out to an authoring house which uses DVDSP and Compressor?

Actually you’d be surprised how easy authoring a title is. Your certainly don’t need to know Java to author an HDMV title. BD-J is another story but very few titles on shelves are BD-J. I personally don’t see a big future for BD-J based on the time and costs in developing a unique title. The real issue is the costs. Check out this blog:
