Good question. Here are some links to check out. I guess some Panasonics have an auto play mode which will work. Another option would be to buy a cheap recorder then demux the stream and make a first play disc in dvdsp.

I’ve been asking around for months now and have found no answer to the question. No one over at sonic will answer the question – no one!! I’m guessing its doubtful. However, if Do Studio isn’t enough for you then DVDit Pro isn’t either! What kind of features are you looking for? Do Studio can author most titles like you see on store shelves. Also BD-J isn’t something to take lightly. Its pure software development which takes tons of time and money to develop. Also, to get started with Scenarist or Blu Print you’re looking at around a $50K – 100K initial investment. There’s an article in last months Creative Cow’s magazine you should read:

Assumming you have the clearance then you you would need to gather your assets in the best quality thats available. If that happens to be Blu Ray then you’ve answered your question.

I’ve used DVDit Pro only once so I would be able to give you much info there. Those tools are very easy to use so it shouldn’t be too hard to learn. You could also try Encore in the new CS4 or Do Studio – both are able to create pop-ups menus while DVDit Pro does not. Encore for CS3 is useless for professional work – hope CS4 is better.

Are you doing something for replication or just a one-off?

You cold use Flash or Director to do a CD Rom but it wont work on a DVD Player. It all depends on what the end user will view it on? If you need to play back on a DVD player there is only 1 choice.

No way you will see DVDs go away anytime soon. Yes…more and more content is distributed on-line but the fact remains that most of people in the world dont watch movies on-line…and this will not be the case of many years. Once there’s the case that most people IN THE WORLD can go down, buy a TV and plug it into the net and watch just about any movie or show ever produced then…maybe.
This is just my opinion. Hell, I finally got my mother and father to buy a DVD player last year and they still would rather rent VHS but cant (my mom says she hates the menus 🙂 ) I personally dont think the avg consumer is that sophisticated when it comes to the content – A big miscalculation on the part of Blu Ray consortium for example They just want whatever comes down the pipe and DVD is the most widely used form of distribution by a mile at this point.
I give DVD another 15 years at least.

You can’t even compare the two. Scenarist is a professional spec tool with a huge learning curve and a sticker price of about 35K. DVDit Pro is a prosumer tool.
