I also observed this problem, but found it to be an error with the Browser. I kept clicking CMD-N to get a new sequence but never saw them. Then I collapsed all the clips that had internal markers & surprise there were seven new sequences. No way to scroll the Browser to see them when the clips were expanded.

Obvious defect in Browser behavior.

I use a JVC SR-V101US connected via S-Video (+ audio) to my Sony PD170.

My VHS tapes have gaps (e.g tape removed & reinserted) and FCP is not able to ignore them (nor is Avid, BTW). The solution I found is to go directly from VHS to DV tape FIRST, and then to FCP from DV tape.

This has the added benefit of preserving the content of the VHS tapes.

thanks for your response. I didn’t suggest you do away with the ads, so I apologize for the misunderstanding. I just want them to stop flashing at me… all that visual noise prevents me enjoying the great content on this site.

So please do tell your advertisers you love them and want them to stay, but their ads are nasty, their agencies are hurting their business and they should instead hire some of the talented professionals on this site to create visually pleasing ads instead of what they now have.

I had two mics… one was the PD-170’s on-camera, the other was a dynamic mic placed closer to the subject but still a few feet away.

Reading about it reminds me of the Really Nice Compressor. Just press the Super Nice button and voilà.
