Thanks Ted,
I had already found and looked at your fine tutorials and reviews. 🙂 That was the main reason I am buying it. lol
I think a good tutorial to see would be something that focuses on how it is improved from the original, specifically in really showing some 3D morphing of some sort.
I saw on youtube and the mettle site, a little snippet showing numbers taking on new shape, etc (I’m sure you know the one), believe it goes from a 4 to a 5.
Just something to really show off some 3D stuff.
Thanks,

Alright, can someone tell me how to get this attachment in to the thread? It uploads, I clicked post direct and then the same screen remains with nothing posted here.
Appreciate it.

You want exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out for months. The closest so far is Turbulence, as mentioned. I have a draft of what I have so far but since I can’t add attachments here, would have to load her up to youtube and post the link later. If you email me, would be happy to send it.

Sounds like you are going with sort of a Matrix type look, which coicidentally, I was playing with this weekend.
I have this Motion Designers kit (number 3) which has several versions of that look as custom built animations. It’s from the digital juice site. Might not be worth the purchase for just the one effect but there are tons of other things as well.
Although, now I plan to try the method above and see if I get the same result.

Hi Bret,
I appreciate the feedback. That’s a good run down. While I was waiting I began using a semi transparent black solid, masked out, with another layer for specular that didn’t look too bad. So, sounds like I am on track with about what you are saying. The shot is a straight on with just a slight amount of left and right movement (so does require tracking). Agree on the warp. I assume Bezier is already in AE (believe I’ve heard of it before) so will check that out with a back up of creating a slightly oversized shield in Lightwave 3D and masking it out since it would have the curve.
On an associated note, with reflection, is there a way to cast a reflection from a layer on to the helmet lense? I know the most obvious is mask it on there too but if the helmet layer could somehow be set to be the only layer that accepts a reflection it would spare the keyframing of the mask since the reflection would remain static against the moving helmet.
If that made any sense. 🙂
Thanks,
Eric

Hello,
I am actually about to purchase Depth by Digieffects. It looks pretty cool. Any comments on how well it performs? Also, I know it is commonly used for background blur and that type thing but I am actually more interested in using it with Trapcode Form. More specifically, I want to figure out how to create the effect used in Terminator Salvation that Aharon Rabinowitz talks about in this Trapcode Form tutorial: https://vimeo.com/12857587
In the video above he mentions how he was inspired by the Terminator shown in this short clip below:
https://www.redgiantsoftware.com/videos/gallery/15/
I am wondering if Depth can be used in this manner and even more importantly, does anyone know more specifically how it was used? It would be great to see a tutorial on this.
Thanks,
Eric
