Thanks for your input. I’m definitely fully making the switch to Premiere, if for no other reason than that Vegas is the most crash-prone piece of software I’ve ever encountered. It’s actually quite good when it works, but I can’t tell you how many hours of work I lost banking on the hope that “maybe Vegas won’t crash this time”. So far, in the 10-12 hours I’ve had to monkey around with Premiere, I’ve had no performance issues whatsoever. Promising!
I’ll dig into the “Extract” and “Splice-in” modes immediately; sounds like precisely what I’m looking for.

Well, that’s kinda what I’m looking for, I suppose — seems inelegant compared to the “Ripple Edit” toggle in Vegas, I have to say. But it’s certainly closer than what I’d found up to now.
Am I crazy, though? It seems to me there should be some sort of idiot-proof function which allows for altering, adding or removing clips in the middle of my timeline while keeping all of the remaining dozens (or hundreds!) of clips in the timeline automatically synced with one another. Does the user actually have to manually maintain all these clips?

BINGO! That’s precisely what it was. 100% solved! I have no idea how I managed to select “affected tracks only” without trying, but that is exactly what I did. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much! Didn’t have Ignore Event Grouping enabled, so I’m still a little confused by how this came about, but knowing that I can just select the first event in a given track will help me immensely! Also, I probably should have figured that one out on my own. 😉
I’ll definitely look into the VASST Event Tool, also — sounds pretty great.
