I found out that there is no way in FCP or Cinema Tools to “Undo” the conform. Since the timebase of the original file is the only thing that has been changed, does anyone know if there is a utility out there that you can run on your files to reset the timebase back to 25fps?

You may also want to look into the JVC DT-V1710CGU, it lists for $2765 if you want to go the component route and $6100 if you want to stick with HD-SDI.

I have been having this same exact problem with anything that needs rendering and it’s become a huge problem for me with 16 commercials due soon. Almost the same specs:

    Mac OS X 10.4.6
    FCP 5.0.4
    DV50 – NTSC Codec
    23.987

At first I thought it was a glitchy firewire drive so I moved everything over to an empty SATA drive, everything plays fine with RT effects, the second I render to compress for the web or move over in After Effects, BAM, GLITCHES!!!

Thanks Anders for info, seems pretty straight forward. I just wanted to think out some issues before committing to the camera for a job.

    Thanks

    Hi Jeremy,

I wanted to record straight to disc via firewire, no P2. It’s a studio shoot and it’s more for convenience. I can use the P2 card but no problem but I was looking to save the transfer time since I won’t be running around in the field.

    Thanks

    Thanks Anders,

If you use the 720P/60 capture setting to record say 48fps. Can I drop that clip into a 24fps time line with no rendering or conversion needed and it will play back in slow motion? Do you also use the 720P/60 capture setting for 24 frame capture then as well?

    Thanks,

    Eric Jones

Thanks Shane, I appreciate the quick response.
