I’ve just been checking this out with some footage and there’s no doubt that you lose resolution (very noticeable).

I’m curious to know what people are doing when handing out Blu-Ray discs to clients, presentation-wise? I currently use full-face printable white DVDs and I can’t seem to be able to find blank Blu-Ray discs that have a white, printable face? I don’t really want to go backwards and start using stickers on Blu-Ray DVDs that might come off because of heat in peoples DVD players…

Apple and other manufacturers, if you’re reading this: It’s time to make things easier for people. Then we’ll all gladly jump in and buy. We’d rather not have a pain in our face first.

sorry I just re-read your post and realized you said the actors were not mic’d. Will there not be any mics on stage at all? If so, my suggestions above would work. If not, don’t do the job or use suggestions above that recommend trying the different mics.

can u not just run an XLR cable from the back of your camera to the sound board/mixing desk in the hall? Monitor the audio with headphones and if sounds too high tell the mixer to bring it down a little. Better to have it too low than too high anyway. As a back up use a sennheiser k6 on an me66 shotgun and put this on a mic stand directed at a speaker. About 2 feet away with low sensitivity selected on your transmitter. Let this transmit to your second camera which you could have locked off in a wide shot. Both ways will guarantee good audio. The sennheiser evolution system is great and would recommend.

I don’t send mine to compressor. The fcpro QuickTime file is dropped directly onto my iDVD menu. PAL professional quality two pass selected.

well quicktime 7 is my player on the macpro. I had to tick deinterlace myself in movie properties in order to get it to look okay on the apple cinema display. Do I need to use something else, cos I thought quicktime was pretty much the standard. Also, I hear that by ticking deinterlace in movie properties, saving it and dropping the file into iDVD to burn will actually make no difference to the resulting image on the DVD?

I would only reuse if I absolutely had to. Yes drop outs will be more frequent if you reuse tapes, but I’d be more worried about the heads of your camera. Camera heads like fresh tapes. You will save money on servicing and/or replacing heads in the long eu . Tapes are also cheap to buy in bulk.

thanks for all the insight. In response to drew directly above, are u basically saying that by ticking deinterlace in movie properties in QuickTime that this has absolutely no effect on the QuickTime file when dropped into iDVD? That would make sense alright as there doesn’t seem to be a difference. However I started ticking higher quality in movie properties recently, clicked save and then burned the DVD. The result seems to be sharper. I must just be seeing things though, as a member of this forum said there would be no difference.

Also can someone explain why people shoot interlaced anyway? Only to deinterlace later on? Should we not all be shooting progressive, including myself, if this is the case?
