Hi Steve. Thanks for the info. I’m going through an ATEM mixer, which skips some of the steps you’ve outlined.

One follow up question: You’re saying 1080 requires more discussion. Have you had those conversations with them with a successful outcome?

Maybe give iShowU another shot. I find it to be a good piece of software. In the preferences in iShowU, you can chose a codec optimized for editors. Maybe that already remedies your problem. If not, try emailing the developer. He’s very responsive. I had an audio device problem that caused me not being able to record the audio output from Premiere, and the developer got on a video call with me, and did live troubleshooting. (And fixed the problem.)

I’m on a Mac system (actually a PC/Hackintosh with OS X running on it). Having said that, I’d be still more interested in PP vs. Avid, and not FCPX vs. The Rest Of The World. 😉

  • Fantastic responses. Huge help. Thanks so much.

Resolve is very interesting, and I’m following it with great curiosity, but for this particular project I’d like to stay in either Premiere or Avid.

Avid, and to a certain extend Premiere as well, have an established workflow in the industry. If you’re handing parts of the project off to others (audio mix or effects for example), chances are that Avid and Premiere are the easier formats to pass on than Resolve.

I’d be many interested in comparing the two, Avid and Premiere.

    Blackmagic Production 4K, Prores 422.
    About 8TB of material.

Absolutely. That’s what I ended up doing.

I was considering checking out 14, because my Mac was choking a bit on the UHD footage and I had heard that 14 a bit easier on the resources. But I just ended up creating 1/2 resolution optimized media in Resolve 12, and doing the rough correction in an HD timeline worked like a charm.

    Thank you

Just picking this up where you guys left it. I ran into the same issues and found an effect in Premiere “Fill Right with Left” (or vice versa). Fixed it for me.

  • Thanks for the idea Kevin.

  • Great idea, I’ll have to try that out.
