    Hi Ben,

I had an opportunity to try both and I liked the Camtram better for stability, build and reliability but at $2,899 it’s not cheap. It does require a longer set up time(not too much) but provides more consistent shots. The silicom O rings run very smooth and the height of the Hihat is adjustable. You can also offset the camera or run it upside-down.

I think for you the Dana dolly would be a good option for you. If you ever need anything bigger, you can always rent it.

Side note: You should consider a system like steadicam to complement your dolly . We do a lot corporate stuff and we cannot do without our rig. It saves so much time and money on every shoot.

    Hope this helps,

I would reccomend Sachtler with DV4 head. We have those for our HVX200’s and they work great. Light-weight yet very functional. We will be selling one soon (we will be upgrading to the Sachtler Soom).

If its not out of your budget ($3000) you should look into the soom system as well.

We work a lot with both cameras (hvx200, hvx2700 and hvx3000) to do chroma key+compositing work but do not have too many samples on the web. Did you need particular information to compare the cameras?

Marry someone who makes a great, steady income like an attorney or doctor.

LOL, I married a dentist. When we got married she told me that believes there should be two paychecks coming into the house.

She works at two jobs……. 🙂

Seriously: I think the Apple and CompTIA technical is a good idea. I think film schools are good things but not mandatory. We are not doctors that require a diploma on the wall or be board certified. Anybody can do what we do.

I dont care too much for resume’s or demo reels (there are expections). If I hire an editor I pull them into a bay and tell them I have taken the system apart and they have 30 minutes to put it back together. Then we look at the reel+resume. I dont want to hire an editor who will throw his hands in the air everytime there is problem.

I say go for the certification, the creative stuff you can learn on your own.

    Just my 2c

    Hi Bob,

Sorry for the late response, little busy. The models we looked at had no LCD screens so framing was just guessing. BUT they are extreme wide angles so fairly easy to hit your target.

  • If you really think you can get more work from him send him a quote:

    Proposed work hours: 20
    Hourly Rate: $100
    Total: $2000

First time client discount %50 (name this anything you want)
    Total: $1000

This way he will know your rate and next time wont ask for free or low ball work.

Obviously the easiest way is to get them to rent the gear through their insurance but its hard to say if you can give the gear to a third party and get them to insure it through their account. Its really up to your rental company to see if they would except that deal.

The “renter” must provide a certificate of insurance naming you as the “Loss Payee” and or “Additionally Insured”. The coverage must be “equal to” or “above” the replacement cost of all equipment rented by the production.

If the equipment is broken by the “renter”, freelancer, by-stander…etc the “renter” is still liable.

You should also have your own insurance to cover your gear just incase but should resort to it if you cannot make a claim for any reason from the “renter”.

  • I just checked again and yes it works MAC and PC. I never formatted or changed the structure.

It is the Flash Voyager from Corsair.
