  • I’m editing in 6, but it still has trouble working with all of the different media and sometimes just crashes completely.

As for the final frame rate, i’m not sure what to use. i mean, when exporting to .flv i always just selec the dominant frame rate in my video (mostly 29.97) but i’ve been reading about how other video editors are exporting their videos at lower frame rates for optimum web streaming.

do you know of a good frame rate for web video???

  • Thanks for the tip, my only question is, wouldn’t it degrade the media if i bumped it from 10 fps to 29.97?

I guess that’s going to happen anyway, but when i output to FLV,maybe i can compress at a lower frame rate, maybe something in beetween 10 and 29.97 to find a happy medium.

yeah, it’s weird. under Audio/Video Settings , Capture Presets, the only preset i can select is DV NTSC 48kHz. in fact, all of the presets end in 48khz.
not sure if this is just a FCP 5.1.4 thing or what. i mean, you would think that FCP would just read the tape and import accordingly.

i’m tempted to just import using 48khz settings… i mean, do you think it would throw my project off that much?

well at least i know i’m not alone. i actually asked an Applecare person about it this morning and he suggested (and i haven’t tried this yet) that i go to USER PREFERENCES- GENERAL- and uncheck the first four boxes on the right-hand side) he said that might be confusing FCP into thinking the clip is DF.

i just tried to up-res this morning (from SD to our original HDV material) and the in and out points were (as i had feared all along) not quite accurate with what I had cut. after i thought i had fixed all of the video to sync up with my audio mix, upon export, everything was out of sync. just another mystifying cog in the wheels of FCP & HDV.
