September 25, 2017 at 5:17 pm in reply to: How to work on PP file efficiently from two seperate workplacesHi Walter,
They don’t have the same name and also have different info on the drives besides the folder for the film which has the same name and internal file structure.
Thank you !

September 22, 2017 at 6:25 pm in reply to: How to work on same project from 2 different locations…Hi Alan,
I appreciate your assistance to our community! And I don’t mean to pick your brain too much, but I think you really have the answer to my question here.
I am trying to mimic your workflow as it seems to be the most straightforward from what I’ve gathered. However, I don’t quite understand how to set up the data drives on both machines so all the paths are the same.
And what do you mean by using an external purely as a “bucket”?
Also – I’m sorry – I don’t understand this step at all: “Once your session at home is done, save it all back to the external to preserve the project and update the directory at work.”
Here is my situation:
I have a drive at home, and a drive (different brand) at work. I set up the film’s folders in exactly the same way on each drive. The drives aren’t exact copies of each other (they have different projects on each drive, but both have the film).
So far, every time I switch back and forth, I have to go through the tedious work of relinking, and it takes a while.
I am wondering what I’ve done wrong, as I thought I’d made the same path on both drives. I launch the Premiere project from my laptop’s local drive.
The whole goal is to either skip the relink process altogether or streamline it so to make it very quick.
Lastly, I may be able to use a different laptop at work, with maybe a different MacOS. Would this change anything?
Any advice sincerely appreciated!!
Thank you!

What year is the MBP you are using?
>>It is a 2011 model (the 670m is an Nvidia card, did you mean 6770m?).
>> I meant 6750M Nvidia card.
“You can try upgrading the RAM to 16, replacing the factory HDD with an SSD and setting your playback resolution to 1/4 (which equates to 1080p when working with 4K), but it’s still a nearly 6yr old machine so editing 4K smoothly on it just might not be realistic. ”
>> I have heard it can be great value to go PC – powerful and less expensive. Now that Final Cut 7 is out …

As I mentioned to Andy above, I don’t necessarily need to edit in 4k – I can edit in prores – but even in prores in 4k dimensions it stutters, etc. even at 1/4.
So i think I’m better off anyway getting a robust PC.
Yikes – haven’t used one in ages!

I’m really into this idea.
So just to clarify – I’m not doing color on this project. Just offline. And I’m ok with transferring to prores or a windows equivalent (have no idea what that is. do PC’s use prores?) and then having whoever finishes relink to the 4K.
But I’d like to edit in the dimensions of 4K.
That being said, a fast computer will probably be good for that work.
I think I’ll get a PC….
Thank you!

Thanks much for the insights.

This is interesting advice and goes along with the advice I’ve been getting around doing it “Ken Burns” style. Thanks!
