You can try some of the suggestions in this tutorial for getting your video to play.
The tutorial is written for Vegas, but the settings may correspond with similar ones in Premiere, or you can try the frameserving method. Not sure about your second problem. Does it happen with any emitter you try?

This tutorial explains the basics of starting from scratch. If you bought pI on CD, there’s a video tutorial on that disc that walks you through creating a similar emitter. There are also a few “from scratch” tutorials on my website (brush fire, water faucet, glowing orb) that all explain how to create different effects.
The way most pI electrical type effects are created is by using animated particle shapes of lightning striking, which can create some interesting effects.

You can grab the blank library here off the wondertouch site.
You can also create a blank emitter by opening up a library’s Properties window, selecting one of the folders, and clicking on the Add Emitter button at the bottom of the window. If you have an emitter selected rather than one of the folders, you’ll get a duplicate of the selected emitter, so make sure you are on a folder to create a blank.

Since the Orbing scenes were shot in a location with no green screen, I generated the painted matte so that I’d have some way of telling the particles where they should be born. Could you use this method to disintegrate someone? Yes. But since the painted matte is only one frame, if the actor is moving as they disintegrate you may run into complications. In Star Trek or Charmed, the actors don’t usually move around too much as they are beaming/orbing away, so painting just that one frame is a lot easier than dealing with a green screen.
The solid white actor (I assume you mean from the 2006 reel) was just put in to show people what the alpha channel looked like after it was keyed. It’s not actually a layer you would use, it’s just a visual representation of the keyed layer.

I just clicked the big H hide button on the images layer for it to be hidden. I think the Size of the rain particles decreases as the Number increases to give the image more detail later on in the scene.

I did a side by side comparison once, and there didn’t seem to be a difference in the quality of the track between the two.

I don’t know his email address, but I have seen him (or at least someone from that site) post on cgtalk.com. Can’t remember his username though.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking, but if you want the water to go further, you can increased the Velocity (it’ll make the particles go faster, and therefore further). You can also decrease the Weight on that particular emitter to stop the stream from bending so much, or increase it if you want it to bend more.

Is this the sort of thing you mean? You have to manually animate the stroke thickness, which can be done in the Size graph.
