Yes, I did resolve this issue….. sort of. Here’s the deal – apparently it has to do with how Final Cut renders the video in RGB. Apparently, if you go into your sequence settings (see attached screenshot), you can tell FCP to render in a higher quality which isn’t always possible given what machine you’re using (I ran into issues because I’m on a laptop).

Anyways, if you switch from RGB to YUV, you shouldn’t see the brightness shift anymore.

Unfortunately….. the problem arose for me again when I went to publish my video using compressor. As my friend explains it to me, there’s no option to choose YUV over RGB in compressor, and FCP tells Compressor exactly where the troublesome areas (like text) are so that the brightness shifts still remained when I tried to compress my video.

So, the only work-around I could come up with was just to export my uncompressed file and upload it straight to youtube as is. Sure, it took over 14 hours, but I didn’t know what else to do at that point.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you’re able to solve the secondary compressor issue since I’d definitely like to know.

Did you find out how to resolve this issue? I’m having the same problem in reverse (footage getting brighter during text not darker) and I’ve tried all the text generators in FCP and still can’t get it to change. I’m using ProRes 422 (HQ) for all my footage and sequence.

I’m new to editing so I don’t know what other info would be helpful about my configuration, but any info on how to resolve this would be so wonderful (I’m way over my deadline as it is).
