Thanks so much for the kind words; I am very flattered. Also, thanks for the trivia, I had no idea there was a name for that type of shot…trombone…I like it. Next update of the site, which should be sometime this week, I will change the description on Shark Week to include that.

About the size of the site, yeah, I am not so good with the web stuff…I had tested it and thought it worked on most monitors, etc…but I guess not. Could you happen to tell me what size your screen was you were looking at it on? Also, were you on a mac or PC? Hopefully this doesn’t happen too often.

I couldn’t agree more about networking. I wouldn’t have gotten where I am so far without networking…I would say about 95% of the work that I do is thru some degree of separation to a friend or co-worker. What I want to do is move out of my comfort zone and work on other types of commercials (narrative and dialogue driven), as well as try my hand at TV and Film. I have found it very difficult to segue into these other territories, but I’m hoping that if I email blast some companies and alert them about my award that maybe they will be willing to take a chance on me even if that is not the type of work I have under my belt. I recently had a trailer company take such a chance on me, and I think they were pleasantly surprised and happy that they did (at least I think so…haha).

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I should definitely put the award show logo on my page. Maybe I should even have a splash page with them.

I wrote a press release, but I’m not very good at “pimping” myself. I think I would be less embarrassed about it if I was doing business as a company, but I do business under my own name, and I rarely see press releases on places like the cow that is PR for an individual. I know it shouldn’t matter. I also did the project with some friends of mine, and they are in the middle of re-branding themselves and trying to get representation and I don’t want to steal any of their thunder by sending my own press release to the same publications as they are (they did mention me in their own press release).

I do want to do pr for myself though, as I am trying to segue into different editorial work.

From what I’ve read elsewhere on the Cow, it seems that 1080i60 should be upper fields first…is this correct?

This was happening when bringing a 720×547 tiff into a 10bit 720×486 timeline. If you look at my post below, it turns out that once I brought the distortion back to zero from -12.5, the image looked correct.

Ok, so I just tried it again bringing a 720×547 tiff of a circle into FCP and then opened the clip from the timeline into the viewer and saw that FCP distorts it for some reason. So, I changed the distortion from -12.5 back to zero and the circle is now a perfect circle. Why is it that the 720×540 frame dropped into a 720×486 timeline looks correct with the -12.5 distortion, but the 720×547 frame looks wrong?

So Kevin, you agree with the FCP manual and Larry Jordan that graphics should in fact be created at 720×547 for SD projects? But why when I do this and then bring that graphic into FCP the graphic is stretched regardless of whether I have pixel aspect correction on or off?

Thanks a lot guys…finally some great input on something that has been bothering me for a long time. Having no engineering background, and having never worked at a broadcast station I’m always just nervous about these particulars…and sometimes it is difficult when you get conflicting answers or theories like in the FCP manuals.
