    Hi,

It actually comes from another XL2 we tried as well. We captured from firewire though PD-150 and XL-2.

I even used a FS-4 to go straight into computer, it still had same issue. Then I used color bars and went to the FS-4. Same issue.

I have one clip I found where it did not do this.

I am lost. I feel as if it is color smoothing issue but have no clue.

Maybe I can post some screenshots.

The colorbars to FS-4 and viewed on the Mac seem to have some noticeable chroma bleeding.

September 8, 2008 at 7:06 pm in reply to: 30p drop frame and 60i non-drop frame in multicam mode

    Hi Jerome,

    Thanks for replying.

When I try to select to clips and make a multiclip sequence the resulting multiclip in the sequence only shows one of the clips in a 4-view mode. In the user manual it said all clips had to be the same framerate. I guess I am a bit confused still. You are saying that all DV footage is captured at 29.97 fps?

What is weird is that even though FCP indicates the 30p footage is drop frame with the ; before the frame numbers when I scroll though the footage no numbers jump like I am guessing they should.

Also you say that drift is normal? This is kinda scary, I would think that the 2 clips would eventually go out of sync and the master audio track I use from the XL2 would not sync up with the video from the PD-150.

1 – So drop fram vs non-drop really don’t matter or have an effect on timecode sync?

2 – Why aren’t both clips do not appear in my multiclip?

    Thanks

    Thanks for clarifying that Michael!

Bummer it is that slow with the camera. I am assuming that it is the limitations of the transfer method. At least it’s not the other way around.

So the camera transfers faster than the reader? How long does it take to dump a 16 GB card via the HVX200 vs the Duel Systems adapter?

  • Rafael – I owe you one!!

Lifesaver!!! Thanks so much for the command j = properties. I could not find that in the menus! I stayed up until 2 am at work here trying to figure this out! I come into work and you have my solution!

    Cheers,

    Elijah

I set up my Qmaster and it makes no difference at all. I read many threads on this and it works if you can send something to compressor after you do a quicktime movie export but I need to export to a Animation codec with alpha and this thing might as well be a single core.

    Hi Will,

Should “share” and “managed” be selected for the services “compressor” and “rendering” as well? A girl from Apple had me clicking all sorts of stuff one night and I am unsure what they should be set to. I have all 4 boxes checked right now and am going to try this out.

  • Thanks Rafael. Those worked but the video is appearing as 720×540 as well. FCP will not let me change the dimensions back. The script is here https://macosx.com/forums/apple-scripts/298282-applescript-change-quicktime-movie-aspect-ratio.html

Here is a direct download link to the script. All I did was take my normal footage and apply the script (4:3) and I saved it. I normally don’t save it but I guess I did. However, I cannot replicate that result with any other files.

    https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/26576/Change%20aspect%20ratio.zip

I did not recompress this footage or anything like that, it is just the flags that got changed.

  • Ok I figured out that a bunch of the clips from the same shoot (XL2 to FS4) play just fine. When I went to check the properties in FCP it says that the ones acting up have a square pixel aspect ratio and field dominance set to “none”.

The good clips have the field dominance set to “lower” and the pixel aspect ratio set to “NTSC – CCIR 601”

I must have used a script for quicktime to change the aspect ratio and then re-saved them I guess. I don’t know how to change them back though.

  • Hi Mitch,

Could you please do me a huge favor and find that thread of your problems. I do not have a Kona card. We are using a garbage matte because there is a microphone on the edge of the screen.

This thing is so slow I am losing my mind. Our sales rep still won’t return her email and Apple still has not returned my phone call like the customer relations guy said they would.

    Thanks for your help Mitch
