    O.k solved it.

Incase any one has the issue themselves.
It was a Kona card issue, display needed to be 8bit rather than 10bit.
10 bit was causing a weird overlay issue at the highlight boundary.

Thank you for all your help on this issue guys.

I’m not sure it is the issue you are describing.
I just opened the footage on another of our FCP workstations and the issues disappears.
It seems specific to one machine.

Bizarrely putting “Range Check” on removes the dashed lines, on that machine.

    Hi,

The footage is 1080p, and it’s not just this shot, it is any where the highlight values exceed 100.
The dashed lines do not show up on QT export they are definitely the result of an overlay or display issue within FCP.

As for sky replacement/color correction the online will deal with any actual color correction, I just used that shot as a simple easy to see example of the issue.

I just need to work out what is generating the overlay dashed lines and turn it off, before it drives all the offline editors crazy.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Hi Mark,

Broadcast safe fixes the issue (as it should, as no areas are now over 100) but I still don’t understand what is generating the ‘marching ants’ overlay on the image in FCP.

Is it a setting that can be turned off somewhere?
I’ve been editing for 6 years and I’ve never seen it before…

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Thanks!
Would trapcode particular be suitable for this type of effect? If so, is there a tutorial somewhere about making layers disperse using particles?

The effect I’m talking about is also similar to the one used on the SciFi channel logo (if you’ve seen that).
