Aha!
In the menu, the playback tape format was set to the wrong kind of tape. I shot on miniDV, and it was set at DVCam. One click of a button, and it plays back fine.
Getting used to a new camera. Hope this helps someone else down the line.

I shot HD and 24 frame rate. I changed the Easy Setup in FCP, and my sequence settings to be the same (720p24). I suppose it’s possible that I’m overlooking something…??

Tom: Please describe how to do it then. I was using the same camera and had the same problems this poster had. I could not get FCP 5.1 to recognize the camera. Was beginning to think it was a compatibility issue. My buddy’s got FC Express 4, and the camera WAS seen. My FCP 5.1 is older. I double checked the connections, the settings, everything. Please advise.
