Have you searched this forum at all for that camera? I know there’s been a lot of discussion about JVC cameras and captures to Final Cut Pro.

it wont work if you shot HDV, the FW port is for DV only. i have the same camera and had to buy the deck which to be honest is well worth it. the deck will only do the JVC hdv but will play any DV.

    Thanks a lot,

Wrong. You can capture from the camera’s FireWire port to FCP, if you’re using a supported format with a version of FCP that works with it.

    All the best,

Tom: Please describe how to do it then. I was using the same camera and had the same problems this poster had. I could not get FCP 5.1 to recognize the camera. Was beginning to think it was a compatibility issue. My buddy’s got FC Express 4, and the camera WAS seen. My FCP 5.1 is older. I double checked the connections, the settings, everything. Please advise.

What did you shoot with the camera? What format and specification exactly? It can shoot different things. Only the one correct setting will work. We use the HDV 720p30 sequence preset, the HDV capture preset, and the HDV FireWire preset for device control.

    All the best,

I shot HD and 24 frame rate. I changed the Easy Setup in FCP, and my sequence settings to be the same (720p24). I suppose it’s possible that I’m overlooking something…??

    I don’t believe 720p24 was supported until FCP6.

    Hi Tom,

I tried employing your settings for capture [Sequence Preset HDV – 720p30, Capture Preset HDV, Device Control Preset HDV FireWire] to FCP 6.05 and it did not work for footage I shot in HDV with a JVC GY-HD110U camcorder using the following settings:

    —-Video Format——
    Frame Rate 60/30
    REC – HDV-SD60P

Is there a different setting? What step did I miss? Should I be recording HDV-HD30P?

    —-Video Format——
    Frame Rate 60/30
    REC – HDV-SD60P

HDV – SD60p is a wide screen SD format, not an HD format. For HDV you can choose 720p30 or 720p24. Those are the only HD choices on an HD110U.
