Hi Shane,
Your help was really good, thank you very much.
Now I have to buy the software and see how it will work, because I’ve got more than 100 Umatic tapes to digitise for archiving and then make the QTDV for the offline in an Avid machine of the same footage.
Thanks.

and also the EDL is a CMX EDl that should work in FCP with out problems, I check the EDl and is fine, the Qt files work fine in avid, and the TC in the EDL match to the files is when I reconnect the media that the problem started. as you can see en the example of the timecode i put before is random and doesn’t match to the edl, when I reconnect the media seem to overwrite the TC information and put everything to 00:00:00:00

Hi Shane, Thanks for all your advise, the test I did before i did it in FCP and doesn’t work either. when i try to create a EDL of my edit in FCP to reconect it to the Uncompressed footage is when the message i describe before comes up.

Hi Shane,
Your Articule is really good, I did everything you said and does work, but the problem start when I try to make an EDL of the offline, (remember that the offline will be done in avid xpress and online in FCP, so the only reference between the two system will be EDL, I can not copy the avid project into FCP.)
When I try to make an EDL of the offline it come up a message that said:
“The Media Files of one or more clips are missing Timecode tracks and may also be missing reel names, proceeding with export will result in an EDL that will not represent the original sequence correctly”.
I undestand if you do what you suggestin your articule within FCP it work perfectly.
Thank for your help.

Hi guys, sorry if i ve been a little bit confused, the problem is not making the low res file the problem is when I try to reconnect uncompressed files to EDL, here is the problem again.
Want to digitise original video to Uncompressed Quicktime.
From this we make an DV file for offline.
From offline make edl.
We want then to online and relink to the uncompressed file.
FCP doesn’t seem to do this properly. The source timecode it takes seems to be random for each file. (the offset of each shot remains the same for each source file but each file is random)
Example of test I did (the bold and italic text is how the shots were relinked the normal text is the edl)

in FCP using exporting and making a QT option

the media start all at 00:00:00:00 but when I reconnect it doesn’t recognize TC if one cut start at 1 min. the shot will start at the begining of that tape, that’s mean all material when I try to reconnect to the EDL start from the start doesn’t take in count TC at all, always reel name.

July 25, 2008 at 12:34 am in reply to: Reconnect based on timecode and reel.Hi there, i’ve to digitise more than a 100 tapes to 10 bit uncompressed QT using FCP 6.0.4 (for archiving purposes) but at the same time i have to make QT DV PAL of the same footage for an offline (using avid xpress) I have done a test an is working OK up yo this point. Now the offline people gave me an EDL of the edit (as a test) for online in FCP. So I imported the EDL to FCP and is fine, but when I reconnect the media, (EDL from Avid to QT 10 uncompressed) everything is off ( QT star now from 00:00:00:00, lose original TC) is any way to reconnect media without losing TC. is any other way to do it rather than manually changing the time for each shot? or I have to redigitised the footage again using the EDL?
can any one help me with this thanks.
