    Hi John.

I used the pro version for HDV and DV edited by Final Cut Express then to compressor transcoded to windows media for 90-minute classroom videos (11 so far) that had to be good enough quality to see the speaker, a large marker board and a projected screen at the same time. I finally ended up moving to Episode, and now can nail the quality I want in a reasonable timeframe (~3 hours on a new 2.6 macbookpro w/high-speed external firewire 800 drives)

A lot of my early problem was that compressor made the process slow, and two pass was very slow. I never hit the quality I was looking for. As the estimated compression times by compressor approached 35 hours, I felt it was time to try something else. My only regret, other than the cost of Episode :-), is that I didn’t start with Episode from the beginning. BTW, their training DVD was worth the price for me.

    Good luck.

    Hi.

I was hoping someone would point out my mistake or mis-configuration :-).

Has anyone taken a fresh copy and fresh install of FCE4 (I don’t own any earlier version) and been able to make the batch list function that Tom talked about work? Is there an add-in that would help me create a database of track metadata/notes? (besides spending another $1100 for FCP 🙂

    Thanks.

With the browser selected, from the file/export menu I only see quicktime movie, quicktime conversion and live type as targets.

I capture my tape, and edit my clip metadata and add markers before I start working with the sequence itself. I am using a new macbook pro, FCE4, Logic Studio (compressor and soundtrack) with an HV30 in HD mode.

Yes, bento can work with CSV.

BTW, you might want to update your signature with your new book :-).

    Hi.

Any way to print or save the browser information in FCE4? I own your new book and didn’t see any reference to it, and wasn’t able to make your File>Export>Batch List suggestion work.

My ideal would be to export the clip information to Bento to maintain a tape/clip library.

    Thanks.
