The NTG-2 can run on phantom power or internal battery, but I recall the output is lower with the battery. I have pretty good luck with an NTG-2 and 48v phantom power from my Zoom H4N.

Well, I tried. After several conversations with Apple support, I uninstalled FCP X and tried to start from scratch. Support told me to delete 4 files in the Library Preferences folder after uninstalling, and then reinstall. I did. I was still unable to import clips. I looked further on Apple’s website, and learned that there were more, related, files to delete: 2 folders in Application Support, 8 files in the Preferences folder, 1 in the Caches folder. I uninstalled again, deleted all the files. Reinstalled. Still no luck. In the end, I got rid of FCP X, and now have a copy of Adobe Premiere on the way. I tried.
