I just get started with FCP X Trial (I want to make sure it will do what I need it to.) I imported video – Sony AVCHD from card downloads – and audio with no problem. Created events, edited some clips, used Plural Eyes to synch audio, all no problem. Then I noticed my hard drive was filling up, so I tried to move my events from within FCP X to an external drive. The internal hard drive filled up completely, and, with difficulty I made some space. Not enough, and the drive filled up again. In the end, I deleted some events that were, I thought, already moved to the new drive. It seems that all the events were deleted, none moved. (A few events show up as being on the external drive, but I can’t re-establish links, because FCP tells me the files, even though they have the same name, are different.) OK, so I tried creating a new event and tried importing the AVCHD files anew. FCP starts importing, but when it gets to the end of the file, every time, it tells me the import failed. Any ideas? Anyone know if I can uninstall the trial version and reinstall it? I’m reluctant to buy a copy if it’s going to be this balky. Long story, and detailed, but I thought it best to include as mich info as possible.

Well, I tried. After several conversations with Apple support, I uninstalled FCP X and tried to start from scratch. Support told me to delete 4 files in the Library Preferences folder after uninstalling, and then reinstall. I did. I was still unable to import clips. I looked further on Apple’s website, and learned that there were more, related, files to delete: 2 folders in Application Support, 8 files in the Preferences folder, 1 in the Caches folder. I uninstalled again, deleted all the files. Reinstalled. Still no luck. In the end, I got rid of FCP X, and now have a copy of Adobe Premiere on the way. I tried.
