Peter, in that post in that link there’s a comment that makes me put a question mark on the response. Because it says

    “…even has 48fps for 24p video..”

But isn’t 24p defined as being 23.976fps. So therefore if someone is shooting at 48fps then it can’t be considered 24p.

Perhaps you meant to say 1/48 shutter speed while shooting 24p which is 23.976fps. In my question, I’m specifically talking about the difference between fps and shutter speed. Those two concepts are not one in the same. In theory, the shutter speed can be much faster than the fps.

So that’s why I didn’t have sufficient confidence in that response and still would like confirmation. Did you mean to say that while shooting at 23.976fps you can set your shutter speed at 1/48 ?

Brendan, thank you. I didn’t know whether or not i’d get a response to my questions so I called up a media buyer and they answered my questions on the phone. You’re correct Brendan. He said exactly the answer you gave me.

    Send to QT Movie
    & then
    Quick Time Movie

They’re even more flexible than that too because they will convert the file to whatever the networks need. But my thought was to send them a file that they don’t need to convert. I wanted them to have to do as little manipulating as possible.

Ok so I’m very impressed now. But can HDSLRs allow me to set the shutter speed to be different than the fps. For example can I shoot at 24fps with a shutter speed of 1/48? Or even a shutter speed of 1/120?

They want 720p 59.94. I’ll send them a digital file via FTP. That said, how do set the options for exporting the final master file?

if I want to output from Avid a final rendered master file to deliver via FTP to stations in USA (those that might accept a file instead of HDCAM-SR or D-5)…what should the specs of that file be?

    1) which container (e.g. .MOV, .AVI, .???)
    2) which frame rate 59.94 or which ?
    3) which resolution (1080p, 720p, or other?)
    4) what other specs for that file?
    5) CODEC ?

    Thanks,
    Eddie

There might be an article or guide or tutorial that can answer @ least a couple things like
*what the settings on Avid should be (fps, resolution, etc) before importing all the footage for a new infomercial project
*which settings to use for exporting & delivering the final master

I’m not trying to become a 10 year veteran but there might be a resource that someone is aware of that explains those two questions
    Kind Thanks!
    Eddie
