  • Try the multiband compressor first, and pick whichever EQ you feel comfortable using. If you don’t understand q on a parametric, stick to a simple eq filter. perhaps the graphic eq.

Totally with Graeme here. (Just bought all his plugin too.. nice)

Export to Compressor often fails or gives files that flip out of sync, also you can carry on working in FCP with Compressor running in the background.

Export to a self contained file should take very little time.

I got what was probably the very first IO in the UK.

The Chroma siganl from the S-Video output socket had gone now, but it still runs everyday on a variety of formats.
Apart from occasionally having to switch extenal frames off and on again (takes 2 seconds) it’s a great bit of kit. Outputs Motion, Photoshop and After Effects too.

The delay through the IO is much better now, and is better than an Adrenaline (I’ve used them they are really sluggish)

This is the most pointless question I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’ve misunderstood why you are doing this!

Why anyone would want automatic crossfades between camera cuts I can’t see. It’s just lazy.
Surely the camera operator isn’t a robot, who has shot a frame accurate set of rushes.
With no outtakes mistakes or long holds.

Secondly mixes are a cheap, amateur overused effect.

And Thirdly, when I do use dissolves they aren’t just thrown on the timeline at default 1 sec, I’ll watch, retime, adjust and rewatch every transition to a different duration.

Complaining that FCP doesn’t do something so amateur and odd makes no sense to me at all, it’s not a feature Apple should ever consider. Next you’ll be wanting a random shot feature built in, to fill a 5 minute music sequence for you because you can’t be bothered to do some work.

  • I get this problem, here’s the answer and it’s easy.

Once you have used compressor to make the mp4 file, drag it to QT then hit AppleA and AppleE, to export the movie file, select export as a hinted movie, this will put the mp4 into a proper QT package with a .mov extension.

Upload this to the internet and all will be well.

Some where ther must be an option in compessor to do this, it’s very odd. Weird my Macs can’t read the files that they created, but it’s to do with file handling in Safari. You won’t get the problem in IE I believe.

    Cheers, Duncan.

August 24, 2005 at 9:47 am in reply to: Tiger, FCP5 and hardware don’t mix.

I have a very old (first ediion) Dual2GHz running all latest OS FCP and drivers with an AJA IO and have no problems.

When I got FCP 5 I bought a new SATA drive and did a full install on that. The first install didn’t run very well, some stickyness in FCP slugishness in the OS etc. I wiped it again and reinstalled from the top, never looked back since (I still have the old Panther/FCP4.5 drive installed so I can ‘look back’ if I needed to!)

I can’t remember what version of QT was current when I did this, it was a few weeks after launch though.

I’ve installed FCP5/Tiger/IO setups at two other companies and they both run fine too.

August 1, 2005 at 8:07 pm in reply to: Anamorphic Sequence Question

The method above won’t work I’m afraid, all the footage in the new sequence will be double anamorphic (letterbox in anamorphic) and there’s no need to create a new project, just a new sequence.

    Here’s the right way though.

Copy the timeline. Open the copy, select Apple-0 (zero) to open the sequence settings.
Switch on anamorphic, then select everything on the timeline, control-click and remove attributes.
    Select distort and press OK.

    That’s it.

Provided everything in your timeline is anamorphic, and you’ve not corner pinned or distorted any clips on purpose it will be anamorphic. Job done.

All you have done it to remove all distortions (these make an anamorphic clip into a letterboxed clip when in a 4:3 timeline) from all the items on the timeline.
