May 26, 2016 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Three hours to encode this 5 minute video. Is that to be expected? In this instance my greenscreen was transcoded to DNxHD and those other f/x (dancing girls, helicopter, crazy guy) were downloaded from youtube so they were mp4, low quality at that.
Only effects were lumetri color correction and grading. Scaling of green screen characters.
Export settings 25 min 49 max bit rate.

ok so, basically, your core advice (pun intended) is to go with the latest version 8700, ebay refurbs be damned. Got it.
Thanks, Jeff. -
Here are the benchmark tests for my current PC. Would the one I’m interested in far surpass or only slightly surpass this performance ranking?

Doesn’t look bad for a hobbyist system. The GPU is entry-level, but certainly better than not having any GPU acceleration for Premiere. Remember that you should have a second hard drive just for Video content, either internal SATA or external USB 3.0 also.
Hey, Jeff, thanks for getting back to me so fast.
The GPU is the same as the one you have on your system, and on the Costco one you recommended, isn’t it?
As for the i7 is 4765T a good one or is that an older processor? Is it as fast as the one you use?
As I said in my followup post it comes with and SSD and I was going to add my internal SATA that I had recently put into my current PC. -
Sorry, it also has an 80 gig SSD with WIndows 10 already installed (I have a second HDD that I would install myself), the processor is an Intel i7-4765T

Hey Jeff, I sent you a PM but in case you don’t see it in time I’m gonna repost it here since you offered to look over the specs of any PC I might be interested in. I have until tomorrow morning to grab this one, below. Will it do the job?
***********************************************************************************************************************Hey Jeff, I have an opportunity to pick up an XPS 8700 for $475.00 but I don’t know if these specs match the one you had suggested to me previously. Would Premiere Pro run smoothly with these specs?
Brand: Dell
Processor Type: Intel Core i7 4th Gen.
Product Line: XPS
Graphics Processing Type: Nvidia GTX 745
Model: XPS 8700
Memory: 16GB
Operating System Edition: Windows 10 HomeI’m most concerned with the graphics card. There’s so many Nvidia’s it’s hard to figure out which is good, mid-range, or lousy.
I have until tomorrow morning. Hopefully you’ll see this before then!

May 22, 2016 at 8:09 pm in reply to: What media player do you use to check out your work? Thanks, Tero, but do you use a media player to play your output or do you play your video inside of Resolve? I’m guessing with you guys, you don’t use a media player, you render (rather than encode in AME) and then check your work inside of your NLE, right? In which case this was the wrong forum to be asking my question 😉 Wait, let me ask it this way. I know you all use AME. What do you use to watch your encoded footage?

May 22, 2016 at 3:23 am in reply to: What media player do you use to check out your work? Thanks, Chris, but the description on that page you linked to makes it sound like it’s a component in other media players, such as KMPlayer which I tried yesterday and drove me nuts with popup ads. I downloaded the zip file, I’ll see if it’s an actual player.
Well, it appears to be, but I doesn’t open any mp4 videos. Just sits there. And no way to open any files from the player, either. Thanks anyway.

May 20, 2016 at 5:28 pm in reply to: Does a file size reduce when you edit off parts of it?Yeah, this project is starting to get a bit unwieldy, but now I have a new problem. My cursor disappears when I place it over PPro with this project open. Only with this project open. I opened two other old projects and everything is fine, but his project I’m working on…..Grrrrr…. And it started right in the middle of the project so I have no idea what could be causing it. I hate to have to start over again. Man….
