Well in my case, there was a setting in VLC that had to be changed. I forget what it was now but once changed the video looked exactly the same in VLC as in Premiere Pro (which I was using at the time). The puzzling part was why the youtube upload looked exactly like the pre-configured VLC video. Anyway, I now use a 4K 43″ HDTV to color correct/grade, and it looks exactly the same on the 4K tv in my tv room, so I’m satisfied.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m just an amateur who does this for fun so I don’t have to adhere to industry specs or stay within “legal” specs. I just have to please myself.

I used to wonder the same thing. How could my Resolve, and previously Premiere Pro, exports look good in VLC, and also when importing the exported video back into PPro/Resolve, yet when uploaded to Youtube they have the same look as in Quicktime. I can understand Quicktime having a gamma issue (and it’s no longer supported by Apple so I doubt there will ever be a fix), but how is it Youtube shows the same exact gamma shift.

As you can guess, I never received a proper answer.

I know I’m just stupid old me, but what I did was create a project with all my settings (timeline 4096×2160, etc.) click on the gear in the lower right corner, choose “Presets” and saved it. I named it Sparky after my dog. No, just kidding, I named it Template, and I can just create a new project and choose that preset. Is that any different from what you guys suggested?

Oh ok, you mean when you place your cursor into the corner it becomes an arrow. I was looking for a little arrow icon in the right corner. Yeah, you have to do it in the primary monitor first right? Because once it’s in the secondary monitor I can’t resize it.

Not quite sure what you mean by that. For some reason my scopes window is now back to normal size on my 1080 monitor so I’m all good, but if you could explain what you mean by doing scopes less with the arrow I’d appreciate it, in case I run into problems in the future.

Thanks, Tero, but that didn’t fix it.

EDIT: When I tried it the second time with the scopes window open, it repositioned it in my first monitor. I can move it around, etc. but if I drag it back to the second monitor it’s too big. I could swear I didn’t have this problem the previous time I used the 4K as a primary monitor, but maybe I wasn’t using scopes back then. Anyway, your solution did enable me to move the scopes back to the main monitor, a lot better than it was before.

Thanks, Paul. Since I don’t do this for a living I don’t have to be so precise in how I keep my projects neat, so I don’t really need to go the compound route. As I said in another post, the procedure on page 416 suits me fine. Just right click each timeline I want to use on the edit page and create a new timeline.
