it plays completely fine in quicktime

when it’s on the timeline it doesn’t play on either the computer or the external monitor. But if I load it into the viewer it does play (but i think it skips frames)…..

but if i use magic bullet to de-interlace before I roto is that a suitable option? I guess the question is more about whether magic de-interlaces footage to make it suitable for fullframe roto?

i also did what you suggested, putting the footage into a 50fps comp (PAL) – but shouldn’t I then only see one field? ie every second line? when I do this I still see every line….

thanks for the response….. I agree with you that photoJPEG is much more distribution friendly, that’s why I was cautious when they suggested h.264 – as far as the quality goes, I’ve done a number of tests (all without B-Frames) and the difference in quality is almost undetectable to the eye….EXCEPT the colours/contrast are all just a little bit off….well, actually, too much off to be able to use it…..

I’m sure there are a few roto tutorials here at the cow. plus search the archives, plus do a google search. I’m sure you’ll come across enough to get you going

thanks for the tips….. the balls are actually going to be “hundreds and thousands”, you know, those little round sprinkles that go on cakes. so the squash factor isn’t too important – but I’m sure I will use that technique in future
