  • not playing back after render….

Posted by Michael Duff on October 11, 2006 at 9:23 pm

hi guys – i’ve just ripped a DVD of my mates band using MPEG streamclip and converted it to .dv – the problem is that when I put it on the timeline and render it it still won’t play. It will show the frame that I’m sitting on, and if I grab a clip and slide it I can see the video scrubbing, but it just won’t play! I’ve tried setting the timeline to a couple different formats. Also tried converting the source file to a photo-JPEG and still get the same results. Normally we are working in the Blackmagic 10bit codec from broadcast tapes so I’ve never come across this before…

any suggestions? I don’t mind waiting converting or re-rendering as long as I can watch it in realtime

    thanks!

Does the clip play in the canvas window but not on your external monitor, or not at all? If you open the clip in the viewer (From the timeline) does it play in the viewer. My first reaction – trash your prefs… but that’s not necessarily the answer yet.

when it’s on the timeline it doesn’t play on either the computer or the external monitor. But if I load it into the viewer it does play (but i think it skips frames)…..

When you export from MPEG Streamclip, use Export to QuickTime, select Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC change quality to 100% and press make movie. You should not have any problems playing the clip.

    Guys have good advices.
Can Quicktimeplayer play the clip properly?
If not, there is something so much wrong with that klip that you have to go back to dvd and re-export the material
