Ok say I have a file on my desktop called frog.mpg….its 20 minutes long. I import it into vegas, I cut it down in the timeline to 8 seconds, then resave it as frog1.mpg. Now with WMM, if i do that, then delete the original 20 minute file (frog.mpg), then when I go back into WMM to play it it says can not find source file.If I do this in vegas then delete the source file (frog.mpg), then will it search for the source file? Or will it play it?

Yes the original source file…prior to putting it into vegas I would like to shorten the mpeg.

Im sorry but Im not sure what you mean by making subclips. What Im looking to do is make the original source file shorter instead of having to save tons of useless video on my computer. I could be horribly mistaken here because my only other experience editing is with WMM, with that, even after I saved a project in WMM, if I deleted the original source file (which is from a capture card), then I would not be able to run the video.
