March 3, 2010 at 5:38 amIm sorry but Im not sure what you mean by making subclips. What Im looking to do is make the original source file shorter instead of having to save tons of useless video on my computer. I could be horribly mistaken here because my only other experience editing is with WMM, with that, even after I saved a project in WMM, if I deleted the original source file (which is from a capture card), then I would not be able to run the video.

March 3, 2010 at 11:39 amI’m a bit confused about your answer. Do you want to make short MPEG files? Or do you want to make the events on your timeline shorter? Do you know that there is a difference between an event in a project and your original footage?

March 3, 2010 at 10:59 pmIt is easy to do this within Vegas. But how to do this before importing the file into Vegas??? Ofcourse you could use WMM to do this before importing into Vegas. Just render the part you want to keep. But why not just doing it in Vegas?

March 4, 2010 at 12:46 amOk say I have a file on my desktop called frog.mpg….its 20 minutes long. I import it into vegas, I cut it down in the timeline to 8 seconds, then resave it as frog1.mpg. Now with WMM, if i do that, then delete the original 20 minute file (frog.mpg), then when I go back into WMM to play it it says can not find source file.If I do this in vegas then delete the source file (frog.mpg), then will it search for the source file? Or will it play it?

March 4, 2010 at 2:01 amAs far as Vegas is concerned, it’s a brand new file so it won’t care that you’ve deleted the original file unless you try to load the original project.

If you save it (FILE-SAVE), you just save the project and you don’t create a new file. So you have to render (FILE-RENDER) to create a new file. Only then you can delete the original file.
And in WMM, it works exactly the same…Theo

March 4, 2010 at 11:43 amTheo, thanks for the clarification.
I meant to say what you did but it obviously didn’t come out the way I intended.
