    Heya,

It looks like you’re running version 1 of Motion, but your system is an Intel Mac. Running Motion on Intel requires version 2.1, which is part of the Final Cut Studio.

    Heya,

All objects in Motion (images, shapes, text, etc) have a Crop option in the Properties tab of the Inspector. Also, you can draw an arbitrary shape mask (matte) on anything, using the masking tools found in the Canvas toolbar.

Typing ‘crop’ or ‘matte’ into the search field of the manual (found in the Help menu) would tell you much of this 🙂

    Heya,

When you say “shaky”, what exactly do you mean? Like up/down jitter caused by field-order issues, or is the background jumping around?

    Heya,

Is there any chance you are running into this problem: https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303037

Try moving the Canvas to your primary display and see if it renders. Please post back, whatever happens.

  • Heya,

It looks like it’s dying when trying to scan the Noise Industries FxFactory plugin. See if that’s the cause by temporarily removing the plugin and try launching Motion. If it’s the plugin causing the crash, you can ping the Noise Industries guys and see if they are familiar with the issue.

Plugins live in one of two places, but I’m not sure which location FxFactory lands in, when installed:

    /Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/

    and/or

    ~/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/

If you’re not familiar with what the tildae (~) represents, it means your user account’s home folder. Give that a shot and see what happens.

  • Heya,

You need to post Console output and/or the crash log (just the thread that says the word “Crashed” on it). This will help figure out what’s going on. Just as a shot in the dark: are you trying to run Motion 2.0 on an Intel machine?

    Heya,

It might be that you need to adjust the alpha interpretation on the media. Check out this thread: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/170/857840?

    Good luck with your project!

February 5, 2007 at 5:59 am in reply to: Layer resizing

    Heya,

It all depends if the layer containing the text is getting precomped. If you were to create a layer, drop some text in and then scale the layer, the text would be rasterized after the layer’s transforms (scale). That violates Motion’s usual compositing order-of-operations, but it helps you maintain text quality, when possible. If the layer gets precomped, though, then the layer’s transforms happen after the text object is rendered, resulting in scaling artifacts.

Things that can cause a layer to get precomped: any blend mode other than ‘Combine’, filters, masks, enabling Fixed Resolution, etc.

January 20, 2007 at 6:35 am in reply to: Motion Alpha Channel Bug in Timline?

    Heya,

Sounds like there’s a bug where it incorrectly guesses the alpha type when you drag it into the Timeline. Easily fixed: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/170/857840?

    Good luck with your project!
