I’m interested in creating something that others can play on their DVD player to their TV. Whether it is mp4 or mpg2 it doesn’t really make any difference. Both are common so most people can play them on what ever their equipment is. I didn’t know mp4 was a youtube creation.

Thanks for taking the time to explain things. Hopefully when I render it to mp4 everything will be in place.

I bought two copies of vegas premium 9 @ $130 expecting to make a movie out of 80 years of film and pictures. I could have got a pirated copy of an older version but wanted to have every feature from a purchased program. I usually dislike sony stuff because a lot of it is priority and you cant use it with other products. Looks like this is what vegas movie studio is. I expected to make say a mp4 movie and put it on a dvd with nero if I had to. But when it came to making the movie I had to use sony architecture to make it. When I tried to make it with nero there was no sound. (I finaly figured out how to add a second sound track.) When vegas renders a program it doesn’t really render it in the traditional sense. Obviously when vegas renders a movie to a DVD it doesn’t make it from a file with both video and sound in it. It only renders it TO the DVD. It does the same with youtube of course. I don’t know what gives with Vegas architecture but it wants me to buy it in addition to vegas 9 which I thought would come with this feature. I registered the Vegas Architecture with 9 and it made a dvd but I am suspicious that it will start demanding that I buy the paid version what ever that is. I don’t want to make a copy of a commercial movie ( I can do that already) I just want to make a movie on DVD and play it like I play a movie from netflix. I really like vegas 9 and hope I can continue making my movies with it.
Sony tried to corner the market in videotape with their beta system and although it was superior to VHS people didn’t like to have to buy only from Sony. They still don’t

Vegas 9 platium does not seem to have the above function. What I thought might work is select “make a movie which allows me to save it in any sony form. I selected mp4 (avc) direct to the flash drive. But afterwards which took about an hour to render when I brought it into vegas 9 on my laptop there was no sound. Also it was shortened to just a couple minutes. I was going to add some narration. I wonder what the cost would be to upgrade to the pro on one of my computers? And would it be worth it for processing home movies? Vegas is a great program but only if I can get it to work differently than just uploading to youtube. Someone might explain to me this problem about just making a movie that works for everyone. Like getting a movie from netflix and playing the movie. I know there is something about copyright and so on but cant remember what it is.

Thanks Most of the contrived camera jiggle and telephoto effects are worse than just leaving it still but I will give it a try. The film i have is so bad and old that it can not be made worse Have a nice day

Yes quicktime has been good for me previously although at the moment it is messed up and needs reinstalling. But a free program VLC media player is so versatile and works good so I am using it at the moment. Thanks

In the platium version when you render there are about 20 ways to render it, some without audio, some audio only, some video and audio. I lastly rendered as sony avc mp4 which I had done before. Win amp would play audio only but inserted some other video in the form of a slide show, Windows media player crashed when it tried. I uploaded it anyway and after the processing by youtube it had the audio. I’d like to check a video with something else than vegas before uploading. But AVC is so much smaller size than some other ways. Anyway, all’s well that ends well. Is this the end?

Oops, I should have said it didn’t give the duration. The size was about one third the size of the same video in WMV. Great if I can make it work in mp4.

Well back to the drawing board. I rendered it in sony avc but when done windows did not list the size of the file as other files were listed. You know properties gives the size of the file. Somehow it didn’t seem to be completed I suppose.

Thanks. I am using Vegas 9 platium. I figured out that it must be rendered in something that also includes the audio. There are several of course. When I go to render it I select which way, like AVI includes audio but is a huge file, WMV is good, Sony AVC (mp4)includes audio in it rendering process acccording to the options. But the upload to youtube had no audio so youtube could not decode it of course. I’ve got to figure out the best and make it default.
