So what’s currently the best two graphics card package on a new 8-core 2010 Mac Pro for Premiere Pro and Resolve if one of the cards is the nVIDIA Quadro 4000?

Need your input as I make the switch from FCP to PP CS5.5. I purchased a new Mac Pro 8-core a month before the release of FCP-X, intending to upgrade to FCP X. The computer was ordered with a Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. I added 24 GB of RAM and 10 TB external hard drives for editing multi-HD formats. Now that I’m switching to PP CS5.5 I’m hearing differing views if the Radeon HD 5870 card will be up to the challenge of straightforward HD editing and extended render times with Colorista II.

    1) Should I upgrade to the nVidia Quadro 4000? I can afford to buy it, but could also honestly use this money for some needed audio gear.

    2) Can I run both the Radeon HD 5870 and nVidia Quadro 4000 in the same Mac Pro unit? Do they play well together?

    3) Or should I just remove the 5870 card and use the Quadro 4000 alone?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Try Barber Tech video products. They used to make a hot-shoe tri-mount adapter, I’m not sure if it is still available. Sorry, I don’t remember the exact part number. We’ve used it successfully with up to three Sennheiser evolution receivers mounted on it. Barber Tech’s toll-free number is 1.877.887.6388. They may possibly still have a few left in their warehouse.
