Success!

It took some trial and error (doesn’t it always…) but I went into Word on my Mac, and played with the many options in the save menu. I found that using “Text Only with Line Breaks” did the trick, and I was able to bring my text right into AE, as advertised by that script. What a wonderful advantage!

I’m pretty sure that I am. I’m not in front of my Cinema 4D computer at the moment. What other options might affect the output quality? Are there any dithering or color blending options? Also, are there any added options I should be concerned with when I do a multi-pass output? Are some file formats better than others?

YOU ROCK!!!! Thanks SO much. I tried the script, and it worked. However, and this one seems really weird, for some reason the script won’t see my text files I’m trying to generate. I’m using .txt but when I open the script and browse, it sees them as grayed-out. Odd, to say the least. The way I know it works, was that I actually was able to import a text file of AE prefs. So I know it can do the job, I just have to figure out what is going on with my .txt files.

Any further suggestions?

You know, I’ve had limited success with this sort of thing, myself. It is a simple matter to pick-whip the text layer, and have that update from the parent, but indeed once you kern or change colors, all bets are off.

Has anyone created any kind of custom script which might overcome these shortcomings of the basic pick-whip system?

Thanks so much for that great wealth of information. Sorry it took me so long to respond, as I’ve been swamped with work. I’m just plugging away with C4D, but I really need some teaching aids.

Thanks so much for that additional insight. The odd thing, is that other than the text tool (yes, the interactive one such as in PS) the rest of AE7 seems to work fine. Granted, I’m still getting up to speed, and normally use 6.5 on my personal dual G5.

I’ll experiemnt with the OpenGL a little, but I’m hoping someone else might have solved this same problem. Again, to reiterate, when using the text tool, we are unable to effectively edit our text, once typed. We can do a little, in the control panel, but it’s impossible to delete a little or a word, and kerning or navigating between letters with the arrow keys does not work.

Thanks. In as much as I’m sure that you’re right that CS3 would work with better results on our Intel Macs, unfortuantely, it’s not that easy to just buy and install new software.

So, being that this is happening on multiple machines, I have to assume that there are many more people out there seeing similar issues on their Intel Macs, running older versions of CS.

Anyone else have something to add?
