I’ve had a couple of instances where an event shows the missing media badge, but all of the projects were complete and all of the used media was online.

In each of these cases, I was able to identify which clips were “missing” using Final Cut Library Manager. As it turned out, one of these files was a spurious reference to a metadata sidecar buried in a camera card, somehow identified as valid media. Following the symlink from within the library showed that it was actually pointing to a .png that was in one of the edits.

With the retimed clip in the timeline selected, hit command-R. This toggles the visibility of the retime bar at the top of the clip.

You don’t need to remove the keyword first… but you’re right. You need to reset your in/out points and apply the keyword again. You’ll be left with extra instances of the keyword in that range, which you can safely delete in the keyword editor.

“Ideally, this is something shown at festivals so I’m thinking of a big projector and how that might look. Also, if I toggle that timeline characteristic between 1080 and 720 with a full project when I’m done…would that screw up keyframing and other filters or can I do that without concern?”

Given the large-format delivery, I’d be inclined to take the hit on scaling up the 720 footage during edit – assuming your projection is 1080 (it may not be). That way, all of your 1080 footage will look cleaner. If you deliver a 720 file, everything will be a bit soft.

Changing size during or after the edit could affect your keyframing, since those values are numerical and based on the current value… let’s say you set some text -200 pixels from center at 720. If you change the frame size, your -200 isn’t going to be where you expect at 1080.

Couple of things to investigate:

What are your project settings in FCPX (frame size, interlaced/progressive, etc.)?

Open the offending JPEG in Preview, and open the inspector. Under the ‘General Info’ tab, what are the values for Image Size, DPI, and Color Model?

It is a Dock only in the sense that you can take 2 bare hard drives and pop them in there like a toaster, and they’ll mount to your desktop. I have this unit, and it’s handy as hell.

Other products marketed as docks have other ports / features like ethernet, analog audio, eSATA, USB 3, HDMI, FireWire 800, etc.

The HighPoint only has one Thunderbolt port, so it needs to live on the end of your chain. It only does the two-drive boogie, none of the other stuff.

No direct way to do that, unfortunately.

What you could do is enter the name of the file in the search field in the Timeline Index… then you can select the used clips one at a time and shift-F to check it’s location in the source.

Backwards, but works okay if you know which file you want to search against.
