FAT32 formatted disks have a 2GB file size limit. The HFS+ Journaled format does not have this limitation.

Maybe you were trying to copy from HFS+ to FAT32 when you saw the errors? I frequently do Finder copies from FAT32 to HFS+ without issue.

When formatting a new drive, I’ll typically use Disk Utility and do the following:
1. Select the device (not the volume) in the list on the left
2. Open the “Partition” tab
3. For Partition Layout, select “1 Partition”
4. Select your Format – “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”
5. Click the “Options…” button below the partition layout view and choose “GUID Partition Table”
6. Click “Apply” in the lower right-hand corner

There are a few drives that I do exchange with Windows users, and for those units I make 2 modifications to the above steps:
4. Select format “ExFAT”
5. Click the “Options…” button below the partition layout view and choose “Master Boot Record”

I use ExFAT because it can handle files larger than 2GB.

One other thing I do is check the Finder Info for each Mac-formatted external drive and make sure “Ignore Ownership” is checked and applied to all enclosed files / folders. The option isn’t available on the Windows-formatted drives.

Sounds like Chris has auto-render turned on, and he’s waiting for the (wrong) stabilization type to render… then switching to the desired method and waiting for the whole thing to render again.

My rig allows me to leave auto-render turned off, so I haven’t seen this, but I completely understand the frustration of not being able to set a default value – or have it remember the last-used value.

Would be a nice time-saver to have the ability to save default values for specific effects / transitions / generators, etc.

I’ve noticed that this will happen if you’ve got a file selected in the relink dialog list. A quick ‘cmd+A’ will select everything in the list and -should- batch the lot.

I have one of those OWC RAIDs as well… I use it at home, connected to my 2013 iMac through the same Sonnet adapter you’ve got. That RAID is limited to SATA II (3 Gbps), but the security of having at least *some* fault tolerance suggests that it’s a better option than a single spinning disk.

Also wanted to note that it looks quite a bit like 60p footage in a 24p timeline… very action-filmy with little motion blur.
