Hey Noah,

I’m using 10.3.2 (and have been on 10.3.x since release). The issue is that I’ve got a few drives that I haven’t touched in a couple of years, and now would like to update those Projects/Events folders. I don’t have anything running an older version of FCPX and wasn’t expecting Apple to remove the feature, so didn’t worry about it until I needed something from the archive.

Guess I’m stuck.

It might work if, on the 10.3 machine, you select ‘Previous Version (1.5)’ for the XML format on export… worth a test anyway. It’s entirely possible that some things will get lost in translation, depending on the project. I’m all-in on 10.3 so can’t test it myself.

Indeed you can, but you have to add it to the Share menu in Preferences first.

Another handy tidbit in FCPX Preferences – right-click on your desired ‘Share’ method and set it as the default. Then you can simply use ‘Cmd+E’ to export your frames.

Hi Michael,

Editing 4K over gigabit ethernet isn’t going to work, no matter what machine you’ve got. The proxies might be okay, but transcoding will take ages, as will the final renders. I wouldn’t bother generating optimized media, it won’t help.

Options could include a direct-attached Thunderbolt RAID, with the NAS for nightly backups… or, if your NAS supports the option, maybe a 10GbE connection using something like this: https://www.sonnettech.com/product/twin10g.html

Your iMac should be okay with the proxy workflow, though I haven’t worked with such a large amount of RED… someone with more experience in that realm would be more help than I can be.

As for the folders – I’d recommend day first, camera designation, then card number (Day01_CamA-01).

This is an issue with AVCHD, and perhaps other camera formats. FCPX cannot work directly with these files in place, and will re-wrap them and put copies in your Library whether you want it to or not.

I’ve got an AVCHD camera, and have gotten into the habit of re-wrapping these particular files prior to launching Final Cut. Maybe that’ll change in a future update – haven’t had to ingest from that camera yet with 10.3.1….

Hm. I’m unable to reproduce this issue.

I frequently use SoundStudio to record VO at 24/48 (mono) .aif – files imported to FCPX 10.3.1 sound just like the originals. What else can you divulge about the source of your originals?
