It will be part of the show! A “Silicon Valley” (HBO)-type comedy, about a band of Apple employees who are secretly tired of working for a watches & phone “bling” company – so they start a skunkworks project, to make something Insanely Great, which is the name of the show. Their insight: “It’s not hardware. It’s the content, stupid!” They come up with Apple TV, which is short bits of web-cast inspirational content, of the type Apple’s ad agencies have turned out from the beginning, from the 1984 spot to the Think Different campaign to the Maya Angelou poetry reading. They cut their bits on X, and the show itself is cut on X of course. Except for a guest episode that Walter Murch cuts on his old copy of Legacy!

Bill, this is a great get! I love it; this guy should be on our forum.
You may recall, my first reaction was: Well, the Touchbar is not for me; I park the MBP on a stand, use large monitors, a mouse, a trackpad, an external keyboard.
Now, hearing this testimonial, I’m anxious to get the new MBP 15,” wire it to my large LCDs and chuck all my external controls — resting my hands on the cool aluminum and controlling everything via the built-in keys, trackpad and TouchBar!

Noah is right, that’s the problem. The number of likely customers would make it expensive.
I guess the only hope would be this train of thought: Apple, unlike Microsoft, is not soon going to make a full touch-screen MBP or iMac.
But testing the waters with the Touchbar, they might then decide to then make a Touchbar Wireless, so that iMac customers can get in on the fun.
That would be the item I would buy, for use with my iMac AND my MBP (I run FCPX on both).

I love the idea of my custom buttons on the bar, but ALSO built-in modes like the scrubber you show.
However, I do agree with the observation that: When not on the road, I have my MBPr on a stand, running a 24″ external LCD, and I use wireless keyboard, trackpad and mouse. Reaching up to use the Trackpad at that point … kinda feels like one of those keyboard players from ’70s prog rock bands, surrounded by multiple electronic keyboards!
It would be great to see an external keyboard with the Touchbar — an expensive proposition and there is likely not a large enough pool of users.
Would Apple allow a third party manufacturer to offer an external keyboard with this technology?

The sad fantasies of an old editor/filmmaker: Steve Jobs actually survives, convalescing in Northern California. He tires of Tim Cook’s competent-but-lackluster leadership, wonders how his prestigious Apple has become little more than a bling company, and comes back once again. He buys Blackmagic, folds it into pro apps and hardware divisions … and suddenly round-tripping from FCPX to Resolve is no longer necessary. We are already there! 🙂
