Right click on the title effect to open it in motion. De-select the Title Background and save a copy. If the effect allows u to edit it u can defeat affecting all layers like this.

Got tired of reading through all the replies so let me (hopefully) simplify what you’re dealing with although someone may have already said this: Some text objects are made with a Title Background. The Title Background takes on anything below it. It’s how we make an Adjustment Layer so anything we do to the Title Background affects anything visual below it. Put the title into a Compound Clip then anything you do to it will be constrained within the CC and not affect what’s below.

August 7, 2015 at 6:32 am in reply to: Position Keyframes- How to change Bezier to Linear?Your keyframes default to Smooth and that’s why the position drifts.
In the latest version of FCPX the easiest way to fix that is to change the keyframes to Linear but do it in the timeline.
Select the clip. Control-V to make settings pop up over the clip. In the Transform section click the drop-down triangle next to the word ‘Transform’ and select Position.
The keyframe dots you’re looking at are now only Position keyframes.
Right-click on each keyframe and change it to Linear.
For me, I wish the default was Linear. I’ve never used Smooth. Ever. It’s always always a set and then fix process. For an NLE to otherwise be the fastest among NLE’s this is one characteristic that flows in the opposite direction.

In the keyframe editor place the playhead where you want the copied key frames to go. Then drag select the keyframes you want to to be the source keyframes and then CMD-C followed immediately by CMD-V. That’s it! CMD-C will copy the selected keyframes and CMD-V will cause the copies to appear where the playhead is. Dirt simple!

July 15, 2015 at 7:02 pm in reply to: Looking for project naming conventions to prevent updating wrong versionI never change the primary name of the Project. I ‘Duplicate Project as Snapshot’ and keep editing the original. That way, there’s never a doubt which is the most current cut. No looking through Snapshots for date and time but if you had to look for a former version, the date and time will guide you.

Hi Mark.. Does assigning the zoom to the eraser also provide the other direction (zoom out)?
The Intuos Pen & Touch is supposed to be used either with a pen or just with touch like a Magic Trackpad. Of course you can mix the two techniques at the same time but I was trying to establish the P&T to duplicate the functions on my Magic Trackpad before graduating to learn how to use the pen. I’m hoping someone reading this thread will have experience using the P&T with FCPX.

Thank you for that feedback Alan. The Intuos Pen & Touch has great potential but in addition to not being able to zoom the timeline with a pinch (or reverse pinch) the tablet instantly releases when you take your fingers off. You might think that’s a good thing but with the Magic Trackpad I will often drag a file from a Finder window on the right side of the right monitor all the way across to the left side of the left monitor. The Magic Trackpad will ‘hold’ my drag for a beat, time enough to reset my fingers to finish the move. I can find no way on the Pen & Touch to have it hold like that. The Preferences has a way to configure for Final Cut Pro X but that doesn’t solve either of my two concerns. However, the Pen part of the pad looks like something I want to learn and it was great to hear your experience on that. Thank you.

It’s been perfect sailing on both my 2012 MBP and my 2013 Mac Pro. I already had Yosemite up to date when I upgraded FCPX. No problems at all and, let me tell you, I have some complex edits!

Getting back to the big question; Is the 5k iMac, maxed out, really good for editing Final Cut Pro X? I ask because my wife is forced to work on a PC using Premiere at work and its driving her crazy. She needs a new computer and the small company she works for is tight-fisted on money. So, if I suggest they give her a 5k iMac (maxed out) will I be making a good recommendation? I mean, as good as I can without suggestion they spend the money on a Mac Pro?

The big question is, for either the BMD Mini Monitor or the Belkin hub, is does FCPX recognize either as a monitoring output? I mean, is either or both available as an option for video monitoring in the preferences and when you go to select A/V Output under the Window menu, is your timeline video routed to either device?
