a similar thing happened to me…it is the 9.2 beta drivers. We’ll just have to wait for new drivers. In 9.1, I got a monitor picture in FCP7 but no monitor in FCPX. I installed 9.2 and got a funky image in FCPX and a funky image in fcp7.

I was using a NLE called Cinestream so I didn’t get into FCP until v. 3 or so. Cinestrem was much easier to se than FCP and I was using Avid before that and it was much quicker than FCP, though you had to eat lunch or dinner while it rendered.

Yes, I admit that FCPx BLOWS. New iterations come out, such as 10.0.3 or 7to x, I get psyched up and start trying to work in X for a while, then the thing just gets really cumbersome, buggy, counterintuitive and I have to spend a lot of time doing things that in FCP7 i could do in 1 minute.

I really want it to work, but after the 100th time, I admit it sucks.

But I’ll try it again with the next upgrade/add-on/plug, etc. that comes along.

I imported a 5 minute section of a TV show with a lot of cuts and all the transition came through, all of the many shots except one,and the title spaces came through. From there it was an easy process to play the original cut in Quicktime and compare the titles and replace them. It took all of about 10 minutes to do.

Considering the impossible alternative, I’m very happy with these results and look forward to more refinement.

  • Thank you that helped, though the quality still is not optimum…also odd I have only 1080i and NTSC choice for the card.

  • HD, 720P 24 fps, I don’t know what Green/green mode is. Also, I am only given 2 choices for format, 24p NTSC and 1080i 24, not sure about output…the Blackmagic card does not give me any aspect ratio choices.

Sorry, I added an extra # , guess I was still frustrated from my latest FCPX encounter…what I meant to say was “piece of s@#t”.

No, sorry, it’s gotten worse. I spent an entire afternoon with that piece of S@#$t trying to retime a HD clip from from 100% speed to 3 % speed for export back to FCP7. First it wouldn’t render, then it repeatably crashed, over and over on the same clip, so tried another approach, it crashed again.

So no, I thought I could use it for very specific things, like optical flow retiming, but it is not primetime ready.

I’ve had Canon camcorders since 1998 and used FCP exclusively and never had a capture problem with the XL1, Xl1s, Xl2 and now XF 300. Try using the plug in power for the cameras and not batteries when capturing, see if that helps.
