Hi BIll! You’ll have to pardon me for being obtuse but I’m new to the DSLR and FCP X workflow… I was hoping that I could pull out the CF card from my 7D, pop it into my card reader and FCP would see it mounted… from there I could create an archive and import the footage but as I’m finding out, this is not the case. So I was hoping you would share your workflow as to making a clone copy using disk utility..? Seems to me this is the strategy I want to use until Canon fixes their oversight. I sure appreciate you guys on this forum for sharing what you know to us “little people!”

Gerry, I appreciate your input! Here’s a interesting thing to crop up. I redownloaded the training files and opened the sparse image and then moved the files to the subsequent folders used in FCP… But as soon as I unmounted the sparse image, the media went offline!! As soon as I opened the image again, everything reconnected and was fine so there’s some kind of relationship going on as far as needing the image file open and the files themselves… Almost smacks of proxy usage but I don’t have that selected… I give up trying to figure it out. For the time being, I will make do with what I have and hope a fix is forthcoming.

Many Thanks for the recommendation for Event Manager X!! What a GREAT app! Are you using a dedicated drive for the files? I’m not working on a MacPro but I do have an SSD drive that runs via USB 2.0 and was thinking about putting the files on this as FCP X seems to see those drives without a problem… just curious about performance, if you have any thoughts on it. I’m using a 27″ iMac with the 2.93 GHz i7 Intel chip and occasionally a MacBook Pro when I’m out and about. I sure did like the “cleanliness” if the sparse image the files once offered…

    Gerry-
Thanks for posting this. I’m having the same trouble and thought I was going nuts! Can not, for the love of Pete, figure out what’s going on with the application and the updated files. I’m on my third download of the files now, email sent to Peachpit and waiting for reply and the one thing I’m looking forward to trying is moving the files from the .sparseimage to another folder, as suggested by Marcus… these small, quirky bugs that crop up each update are starting to wear thin. Any-ro, I have a feeling there will be more as the days go on and more and more users start upgrading the files… Could not have happened at a worse time!!
