As for your question about sending in both cameras to the same place: find a reputable broadcast supply house in your area and get the tape transport and heads cleaned and adjusted on both cameras.
Your cameras are pretty old, especially the XL1s so I don’t know if there are still parts available. There are a ton of GL2 and XL1s cameras (both use the same tape mechanisms) still in use so perhaps you’ll get lucky when you talk to Canon about replacing heads when it’s needed. Another reason to pay a visit to your local broadcast supply house.

I am rather fortunate that I have ambidextrous eyesight and have found that I’m equally inept on both ;-0

You can set up a ‘watch’ folder within Episode and anything you drop into the folder will (with the right set up) be automatically converted to your chosen format. Works great.

When this type of question is asked here typically the standard answer is that the Calibrated Q web site is the place to go. I’ve always understood that there is a Mac OS plugin that lets you edit the EX MP4 files natively within FCP without the need to transcode to MOV first.

But is the eject mechanism for that slot broken or is it okay?

It wasn’t quite the same problem, Michael but you’re on the right track. George Pagliero had put his card in back to front and it became stuck. He was in a remote location in Chile at the time and couldn’t find a paper clip as was suggested. He eventually used a blade from his leatherman and managed to dislodge the card.

The Røde® NTG3 seems to have a narrower polar pattern than the Sennheiser® but the NTG3 is much pricier than the Senn 66. The NTG3 is also not as sensitive as the higher end Audio Technica® in the same comparable price range. More latitude, however, can be a good thing when you’re dealing with soft and loud vocals during the same (interview) take. My AT4073a is a nicer sounding shotgun than my NTG3, which sounds almost muffled by comparison. I can’t speak to the sensitivity of the Senn 66 but I know it’s considered a ‘hot’ mic.

Hi Alex,
Your Compressor issue could stem from any number of reasons. Before you end up deleting it and re-installing try this program first:

[Rick Diamond] “So, at this point in time, I would say that it’s premature to be buying the Nano, unless you have a client that needs delivery of a higher codec than 35mbps. “
Indeed. There’s really no use for a C.D. Nano for interviews because there’s not enough motion happening to make much of a difference between the the 35mbit 4:2:0 and the higher bit rates and colour space you get from using the Nano. Where the Nano really shines is in fast motion shots. Here’s a comparison picture kindly donated by Michael a while ago that really shows the difference.
